Santorum drops out!

Posted: 4/10/12 at 11:03pmBecause Santorum was never officially beaten, he'll be back. Sadly, I think it would've been more of a boon if he HAD gotten the nomination and then lost. It would've signaled a rejection of his religious craziness and maybe would've sparked some change in the Republican party.

I never said a sick child was laughable, I said your post was, oldbill...

Kad, this is EXACTLY what I was hoping. Had Santorum gotten the nod. It would have drawn the Religious Right and the whole "Christian Nation" debate out into the open and would have been settled once and for all.

"In addition, Santorum needed Gingrich to step aside so Santorum could bring together the conservative right, but Gingrich stayed in the race, they said. Santorum also needed to win Pennsylvania, which remained possible but would require large amounts of time and money against an expected Romney offensive there, the advisers said."

Posted: 4/11/12 at 1:11amAlthough Santorum is extremely vile, a sound thwarting of him in November would've put him out once and for all. Now, I have no doubt he'll be back in 2016- and almost assuredly with a stronger base, especially in the event of a second term for Obama (which will almost certainly just inspire more of the same hatred from the right..)

Did Santorum have to listen to his campaign's heartbeat before he suspended it?
Santorum will be back in 2016, no doubt about it.

When Mitt Romney loses, Wednesday morning Rick Santorum will be anointed as the nominee in 2016.
As much as I loathe the guy, he did a masterful job rehabbing his reputation. Six years ago he was a national punchline. Now, he's a national punchline who almost got the nomination.

"Placing the needs of his ill (possibly dying) three-year old daughter above the chance of being president shows he at least practices what he preaches, like it or not."
How so? I've heard him preach a lot of things. Never anything along these lines.

Oh, how much fun would a Clinton/ Santorum showdown be in 2016?

Posted: 4/11/12 at 12:58pmHe currently has NO chance of being president- Romney has clinched the nomination and Santorum is polling behind Romney in every remaining sate- including his home state. He is sacrificing nothing for his ill child.

Wasn't his child ill before he entered into the race? If the best interest of his daughter is his concern, wouldn't it have been a better decision not to have entered into the race at all?
Are we to assume had he won the nomination, that he would have pulled out of the campaign in the interest of his ill daughter?
Does anyone actually believe this is the reason he suspended his campaign? Anyone??

Posted: 4/11/12 at 1:32pmActually, if his daughter is going to be dragged into a discussion of his decisions regarding his political career, I have to ask myself why he launched his campaign in the first place when she was so ill.

I agree with Kad. He bowed out gracefully (at least in his supporters eyes).
He basically primed himself to run again next time.
