"Television commentator and half-term Alaska governor Sarah Palin trashed the National Endowment for the Arts recently, describing the agency as "frivolous" in a Thursday interview on a Fox News talk show.
"NPR, National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, all those kind of frivolous things that government shouldn't be in the business of funding with tax dollars -- those should all be on the chopping block as we talk about the $14-trillion debt that we're going to hand to our kids and our grandkids," Palin told right-wing host Sean Hannity. "Yes, those are the type of things that for more than one reason need to be cut."
I'm glad that the subject of a reality TV show can decide what federal programs are frivolous.
Sarah Palin trashes National Endowment for the Arts
Even if one agreed with her -- which I don't -- her suggestion is akin to someone who's in debt and blows a grand every weekend in Atlantic City take care of their problem by cutting out the $2.50 cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee they get before boarding the bus.
Bravo, Calvin.
Sarah who?
I am shocked that she could even use the word "frivolous" in the proper context. Just how many museums in the state of Alaska receive $ from the NEA?
Don't they have a spare muzzle laying around somewhere that could be put to good use?
^ One can only hope!
this is what i'd like to see: on our Federal tax forms, we can elect to send a dollar to the political party of our choice. Why can't we elect to send a dollar to the NEA? if we had maybe 30 percent of the per capita sending a dollar each, their budget would increase mightily.
