Posted: 1/16/08 at 8:46pmJust heard on Entertainment tonight that Britney was caught shopping for a home pregnancy test. That is such a scary thought. I guess she figures she has lost her other 2 kids she'll just make a new one. She is one sick person that desperately needs help. If she is pregnant that kid will be so messed up and if survives the pregnancy will probably be born and have to suffer through withdrawl. Someone needs to get Britney out of CA and in an inpatient hospital unit soon or she will be the next Anna Nicole.

she wants a girl. she's trying to get her sister to move in with her beacuse her sister is expecting a girl and they could raise the baby together.
her poor sister is so confused by everything going on that she's actually considering it.

Couldn't she possibly get an assistant to buy her pregnancy tests for her?
Could it possibly be that she let herself be photographed doing this to get more people talking?

Whenever she chooses to clean up, the first album after will sell billions and the first interviews post-clean-up will net her ba-zillions. She is baiting the press-mark my words. She will co-author (she can't write a book on her own, y'all) a book on it someday for which she will get a big fat paycheck.

I don't think people can really judge her experience in any way, shape or form. Some women have children and turn out to be bad mothers or decide they do not want the children. It happens everyday-she just happens to be under a microscope.
Many women leave or abandon their children-it's a reality and she's a real person. Her life has been a facade since she was teen, she was pimped out by her folks, and was a performing robot. She's entitled to a breakdown. She has no idea how to self soothe or function with normalcy. She probably has no relationship with herself. I feel bad for her. Her mistakes are no worse or different than thousands of others just like her who are not celebs. She never signed up to be role model. She's a lost girl and she will bounce back unless the media manages to kill her to create more stories they can milk for months.

Ill and struggling people do need some compassion, not constant scrutiny. That's all I am saying. I think she is a talented performer who can return and if she is able to work through this, it is brilliant and courageous.I guess it might be the bleeding heart social worker in me, but everyone has a story and history, even women who hurt their children.
As far as people in the business being role models, that dream died LONG ago. This isn't the 50s anymore. All actors, singers, performers cheat, booze, make home-made porn, hawk anything for a buck, tout easy living, skinny bods, and living above one's means. The days of looking up to performers is dead with the media behaving the way it does-discretion and decency are dead. Even "old school" performers like Chita, Sally Field and others talk about how it is insane to be a young person in Hollywood and it is very different.
If anything, stars are now seen as more flawed and it is their lives that make them interesting and no longer their work. It is the "reality-crazed" society we live in.
I hate to break it to you, but their are so few role models in the industry. Look to your friend or your neighbor as a mentor or a role model.

I hate to tell you, but I"m still in the world. To quote Edie the ELDER to LIttle Edie, "You're still in the world, you know. You're not out of the world."
Well, when I said role model I was thinking more along the lines of a singer who does want to be at the top of her business, have millions of little girls and boys admire her, dress like her, dance like her, etc. I was not referring to her personal life. Yes, many of these "stars" end up wrecking their lives, but I'm not so sure they sign on for that. I think they have high expectations. (no pun intended)

I'm so flattered that you consider me in the age range of girls who might be looking to Britney as a role model. What's that, about 12? Less?

With Vanessa Hudgens doing what she did and she being kept on by Disney, what does that message say? Is it a good message ("people make bad choices, let's forgive, forget, and move on") or a bad one ("do whatever you like and if you say sorry or not, it's ok with no repercussions"). Makes me wonder.

People make mistakes.
That's just human.
But Britney is a failure as a mother and a human being. She runs people over, hits other cars and generally doesn't take any responsibility. Hell, she couldn't even bother to show up to court to fight for her kids.
She put out a couple of good song a while back, sure, but 'what has she done for us lately' except embarrass herself over and over again.
She's going to be dead by the end of the year if she keeps going in the direction she's chosen for herself.

It's just interesting that folks seem to delineate Britney from others somehow. Go to any community mental health center and you would have your pick of woman, men and teens who are behaving no differently. People make mistakes, mistakes are human as you point out. What people seem to overlook is that Britney is human. I'm not saying she is to be commended, she is a mess. I just have some compassion is all. I think many view her like wildlife in captivity, as entertainment fodder when a real life is disintegrating, as well as that of her boys.

There are very few, if any, good role models for the young these days. And if there are any, we may never know about them, because those headlines don't sell. You're preaching to the choir about that topic.
The difference between you and I on this topic is that you're blaming everything Britney does on someone or something else. Plus, you did call her brilliant. Who do you blame for her two pregnancies and children? Are you going to tell me that she doesn't know about birth control?
I do have compassion-lots of it-for people who are faced with circumstances which are out of their control. These are the people who really have it tough. I don't have as much compassion for those who have brought about their situations and can correct what's gone wrong. Especially those who have second and third chances but don't learn from their mistakes.
