Apparently Lesley Ann Warren's Lois was on speed...
What's up with Margots 'Betty Boop' wig?
I liked Anne Archer
What about Stockard Channing? I love her, but I don't know. Would this have worked?

Awww...I love Lesley Ann Warren. But yeah, she was hyper in that screen test. She needed to take it down a notch.
Margot Kidder was perfect in the movie.

That was really cool to see! Thanks so much for posting it, Mr. Midwest!
And I agree with South FL Marc that Margot was ideal in the movie, but I think Anne Archer had a really nice take on the character, too. And WOW, was she gorgeous. (Maybe too gorgeous for Lois?)
I thought Anne Archer was appealing as well. I think Karen Allen is another person who would've been a good fit in the part.
Stockard gives it a shot
This is from the Superman documentary. It's very interesting to look at a "what if" scenario. I agree with South Fl Marc . . . Margo was the perfect fit for the movie.
It's interesting that the scene played in the second tape is one that appeared in the second Superman movie. Do you think they held screen tests for Lois after Margot had already played the role in the first movie? That she had to test a second time?
OR - was this scene (and Superman's denouement) originally supposed to be part of the first movie?
I loathe Margot Kidder's piercing bray of a Lois Lane.
Anne Archer would have been much less irritating.
Mamie, originally the two films were to be shot simitaniously, but did not finish part II. The end of part I was actually supposed to be the end of part II. It is a very complicated story, but fascinating in a twisted "Hollywood Biz" sort of way.

That last line just cracked me up. "Well, Peter Pan flew with children, Lois... in a fairy tale."
I would have really liked Lesley Ann Warren. I don't know why. I really like the gun shot scene. Was that cut or did it just not make it to the final script?

I haven't seen these in a while. I'm reminded of how talented Margot Kidder really was.
She and Deborah Raffin are the only two here who actually convince me that they're REPORTERS doing an interview. The others seem to be "playing" at it, at best. Doodling in their notepads and giggling like junior high school girls, with no clue about any of it. They all play "stunned" and "confused" but not "reporters." They forgot who Lois Lane is, and just played her emotions.
At least Margot and Deborah are struggling with doing her job while they interview this "super man."
And Margot is the only one who has many layers to her performance. You can see her thought process shifting from practicality to irrational romance and back again.
Yes, you can "read her mind."
I liked Anne Archer, too. Margot and Christopher did have a nice chemistry, though. The question is, whose stomach was growling near the end of Margot's screen test? :)
"Gotcha"........margot was the best...
Anne Archer never looked better than she did in Fatal Attraction. Drop dead gorgeous!
The "gun shot" scene was actually the original way that the "reveal" scene was scripted. But, when Donner left, the new director added a new "reveal" scene which I think kind of ruined it. If you watch the SUPERMAN II: DONNER CUT dvd, that screen test is placed back into the movie as it was originally intended.
these are on the SUPERMAN dvd and fun :) i LOVE the commentary on the dvd... so interesting to hear them talking about, and marveling at, what they could do optically, before computer special effects.
