Se7en (1995)

Popped this DVD into my player last night. Haven't seen it in a while.

It has been almost ten years since this film was first released, but it holds up as if it was made yesterday. It is one of the great modern thriller. Disturbing, thought-provoking, intense, and gruesome, all without showing a lot of gore. It also has one of the stronger visual styles I've seen in a while.

The cast is excellent. Morgan Freeman is wonderful (what else is new?), as is Gwyneth Paltrow, R. Lee Ermey, Richard Roundtree, Leland Orser... and a special guest star. This film (along with "Twelve Monkeys") also proves that Brad Pitt CAN act, and quite well.

If you haven't seen it, rent it. The squeamish need not apply. And watch out for the ending. You won't believe it.

re: Se7en (1995)

I happen to know of a certain diva who missed three performances of her Broadway show because she was so disturbed by this film. That's fragility. And insanity.

Which are the eighth and ninth deadly sins. They'll be in the sequel.

Rath-

It wasn't Chenoweth, was it?

re: Se7en (1995)

The 8th Deadly Sin was Meet Joe Black
and the 9th was (tied) Seven Years in Tibet, Troy, Devil's Own, Spy Game and The Mexican.
If you really want to help the American theater, don't be an actress, dahling. Be an audience..... Don't be taken in by the guff that critics are killing the theater. Commonly they sin on the side of enthusiasm. Too often they give their blessing to trash... Tallulah Bankhead

re: Se7en (1995)

This film delights me for many many reasons, but the most delightful aspect of it is David Fincher. After Fox made his life hell with Alien3 and then ruined his cut of the film and then made sure the film's negative reception was blamed entirely on him, Fincher gave serious consideration to never directing again as he was so scarred by his experience with his film debut. So it's very pleasing to me that he chose this as his next project and blew audiences and critics away.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

I think Se7en is as freaky as Saw.

Captain-

Is that a good or bad thing?

re: Se7en (1995)

That's a good thing. I liked freaky stuff.

re: Se7en (1995)

No, broadway86. Chenoweth may be many things, but certifiable isn't one of them. I will take no more questions on the subject, however.
