I do apologize for using BWW for something like this, but I am getting desperate -- and NO, not *that* desperate!
And since those in theatre are always subletting, or know someone else who is subletting, it doesn't hurt to try here.
I am looking for either a sublet, a room or apartment, and/or roommate(s) for a preferable August 15 move-in but can be earlier or later. Prefer to live in Manhattan but am open to other areas (it's sort of important that I be able to get to midtown within 30-40 minutes, but not crucial). Looking to spend $800 per month (maximum, utilities included) -- but preferably to pay $600 in rent or less.
Will consider both temporary or permanent living situations.
Please contact with any leads!

It is possible, PRS, with room mates, in inaccessible parts of Queens and Brooklyn, but really only if you know somebody. I wish Hook all the luck in the world, but he's asking an awful lot and has left this a little late.
Don't know what the rates are for the Sloane YMCA these days, but that's where I spent my first month in Manhattan. Serviceable and very affordable back when. Shared bath.
eta: woops! It's LONG gone. Too bad. It was a great intro to nyc.

You don't even have to be in inaccessible parts of Queens. I know plenty of people in Astoria who are paying $600 a month for their share of a 2 bedroom. I'm in Woodside and only paying $500 a month, utilities included, for a 3 bedroom. Sunnyside and LIC also have similar deals out there.
I can't speak for Brooklyn, since I don't know it as well.
