I still don't see this as a separation of church and state issue. It's a constitutional issue. We are a republic, not a democracy. Putting civil rights issues on a ballot, to be decided on by the majority, is unconstitutional.

I'm not saying that, at all. I'm saying if you focus on that, you are losing the message, the point, the goal, everything. But, if your goal is anti-religion, then go for it. When civil rights issues are put on a ballot for the majority to rule, it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Taking on organized religion doesn't fix that issue.

As pertains to the single issue of gay marriage, I agree. But I didn't speak so narrowly, and that isn't what I'm thinking about. As Calvin already pointed out, this goes far deeper and has wider-ranging impact than that one issue.

I have to roll my eyes at anyone who believes churches that can barely pay their utilities each month are in a profiting business. Not all are mega-churches with in-house Starbucks or gold-gilded Catholic cathedrals- and those are the ones doing the most damage politically.
