I can't believe how completely under-the-radar this film is. I just discovered today that out this December is a sequel to A CHRISTMAS STORY. WTF?!
Maybe it is under the radar because they know exactly how bad an idea it is! A "What the hell were we thinking?" moment.

LOL
What a horrendous idea.
I blame the direct-to-video Disney "fairy tale franchises" for creating a successful business model for parents who want an "electronic babysitter" for their spawn.
I thought for a moment this was about the not so memorable A Summer Story with Gene Sheppard still doing the voice-over and Charles Grodin and Mary Steenburgen as the parents.
I've always credited Nickelodian as the inventor of the "electric babysitter". Disney was just learning new ways to franchise a brand when they saw how successful video sales were going to be in the 80s. They already had previous tie-in success with children's books, read-along 45s ("when Tinker Bell rings her little bell, turn the page") and story-telling LPs (I had 101 Dalmations).
This is the story of Cinderella. You can read along with me in your book. You will know it is time to turn the page when you hear the chimes ring like this...
Let's begin now.

No way will it be as good as Brother Bear 2.
BB2 is the Godfather part II of straight-to-video sequels.

You beat me to it, strummergirl! I thought, for a moment, that nobody remembered that film.

And in terms of the "unofficial" sequels, that Gene Sheppard still narrates and still use all of the same character names, there was also Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss with James Sikking (Doogie Howser's dad), Dorothy Lyman (Naomi on Mama's Family) and Jerry O'Connell (just as he started to shed that fat kid image from Stand By Me). I think it was made for the Disney Channel in the late 80s, at least that's where I remember seeing it.

I thought it was titled It Runs in the Family. That's what it was called when it first came out and I saw it.

I think both titles were used at one point or another. I remember when the DVD was released some years back it was sold as My Summer Story.
I remember several TV movies based on the same stories airing on PBS' American Playhouse when I was a kid.
