DGrant - I didn't mean that to be taken too seriously, only semi-seriously. We'll never know for sure, but I recall a thread similar to this, and many announced they were homosexual.
Related,
Why do some bash for using the terms "gay" and "black" but never for "straight" or "white"?

Up - Oh, I'm all for personal liberty, so people should feel free to share away. I just can't really fathom why it's a curiosity. All it sounds to me is like someone needs to get laid.
And did someone just quote a statistic from the movie CAMP and claim that that made it a fact?

Wait.
Did someone just use a quote from CAMP as scientific fact??
EDIT: Beat me to it, D.

#29re: Sexuality...
Posted: 7/5/05 at 1:14amIm not claiming it as a scientific fact, but its kind of obvious that the majority of males in theater are not straight. and plus I heard that on IFC too (that wasnt Camp of course, on a documentary)

Just how much time do you spend in the theatre, jimmy, that it's so obvious?
eta: and since when is IFC the arbiter of accuracy?

Um.
I just read jimmy's signature.
It'll be hard to take what she says seriously after that.
"btw I'll always have sutton as my av until she wins another tony, she should have won for Little women, extreme bull. extreme"
It'd be funny if it weren't so sad.
Victoria Clark gave one of the most layered performances in years. Foster gave a good performance, end of story.
Now.
Back to the topic at hand.

Priest - no one with a modicum of awareness takes blanket statements like these being made seriously.
I STILL think someone just needs to get laid - or at LEAST discover masturbation.

Im not trying to be offensive but thats the truth, and you shouldnt have started a thread about it if it was that controversal of a subject to you. Well Ive been doing theater and dance since the age of four. And I can proudly say that I have dozens of homosexual male friends that I met doing shows. And Priest, you obviously didnt see sutton in Little Women. I have the cast album of both Piazza and Little Women, and Victoria doesnt even hold a candle to sutton. But in terms of acting, I saw sutton live and Victoria ::bootleg:: and my decision rests. and ghostlight, Ifc isnt completely acurate, but when Ive seen basically the exact same statistics in a number of places, (including coming out of my pschologist's mouth) then they tend to hold some truth.

Jimmy - you DO realize, don't you, that all you're spouting is your opinion, and then claiming it as fact, right?
Frankly, if I were any of the many straight people involved with theatre, I'd be insulted - and probably hate you on sight. But that type of generalization and judgement seems natural to you, so you probably would understand.

Oy...Bypassing the arguements, I am a straight female. Who is a gay man at heart. Well, with boobs, anyhow.
DG - This is why you are a legend in many hearts.

Posted: 7/5/05 at 1:39amSpouting opinion of what? Sutton vs Victoria, I know I am, fans should stand up for who they think is better. But on the subject of homosexuals in theater, thats not my opinion, thats how it in all fairness, is. I can find the site i saw it at if you dont believe me. Im not trying to be offensive or unfair, saying this, and if I did offend you, I'm sorry, all of my gay friends arent offended that easily, and neither am I. And for your information, I have a gay uncle, and for you to say that I am completely judgemental and, basically a dumb b!tch who doesnt know what shes talking about completely is offensive to me.
#42re: Sexuality...
Posted: 7/5/05 at 1:42amOh and ghostlight, my doctor was talking about it because I know a friend who was homosexual in theater who overdosed. thats why she was talking about it. and she should know, she does opera.

Posted: 7/5/05 at 1:45amI have got to believe you're pulling my leg. You want to cite a website? You can find a website to support any belief at all. I'm not offended, and I'm not trying to offend you (and certainly never called you "a dumb b!tch"), but you just can't believe everything you hear or read.

Jimmy - never, anywhere, did I state, or really even imply, the things you just attributed to me. But have your say - that's fine.
I think your experience of theatre is limited, and perhaps processed through some sort of filter. If you take the entirety of people involved in theatre to include tech as well as performers, the statement or even feeling that most are gay is HIGHLY debateable!

Unless you have met every single performer/technician/stage hand/director/stage designer/every single profession in theatre, it's a very blunt argument to make.
#46re: Sexuality...
Posted: 7/5/05 at 1:56amI wasnt making the argument in the first place! I was simply agreeing with someone else. And by theater, I meant performers. My ex was a techie and he was far from gay. can we just please all drop this, Im taking responsibility for hurting all of your feelings. If you want to b!tch at me some more, IM me, I was not trying to pass my opinion off as fact, I was simply stating what Ive seen and heard.

can anyone decode this for me?
#48re: Sexuality...
Posted: 7/5/05 at 2:32amMy shrink was talking about the gay presence in theater to me because I was mourning the death of one of my friends who ODed of pills. She was telling me about it, because I asked, and she told me what she knew from her experience in theater.

"That's a crock. Just because there's a bunch of loud-mouthed, know-it-all, in-your-face bitches doesn't mean the majority is queer.
you got that right D!
