#0Shakespeare monologue suggestion
Posted: 4/9/06 at 2:51pmHey everyone...I need a dramatic Shakespeare monologue for an audition and would prefer to do something that isn't way overdone. Therefore no Juliet or Ophelia. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Take a look at the comedies!
Midsummer has a few good ones from Helena and Titania.
Rosalind has a couple good ones in As You Like It, too.
There are websites with all the Shakespearean monologues, if you need ideas!

there is a hysterical julia-the "o hateful hands" monologue in 2 gentlemen of verona- it's kinda overdone but if you like it a lot just do it
helena- "i am your spaniel demetrius"
try the histories, nobody does them

There is a wealth of material in them, but people tend to avoid them just because they're not as easy to read as the comedies. Tamora has a lot of really good stuff in Titus Andronicus, and don't forget Cleopatra, she's also wonderful! Good luck!

Posted: 4/10/06 at 6:08pmLook into Titus Andronicus, most likely you will be the only person doing a monologue from it.

Imogen has a couple of good ones in Cymbeline as does Portia from The Merchant of Venice.
The histories are great(Henry the IV, VI, and VIII have good stuff. Richard III as well). Just be careful...some of the women (Cleopatra, for example) are a bit older, and you might want to just make sure the character is within a reasonable age range.
