Should PMs remain Private...

Yes, PM stands for PRIVATE Message, but does that make it unethical for me to share these if they were sent to me unsolicited? I never signed an agreement to keep these "private". Do you feel an obligation to keep PMs to yourself? Or should the sender just assume that anything in a PM is going to be shared? Perhaps we should change the name of PMs to Off-board Message.

Posted: 1/19/06 at 4:04pmeh, I have always kept them private, but if one pissed me off, I would probably post it.

I really think it depends on the nature of the message.
If someone is responding to a post on a thread, and wants to address an issue with you personally rather than post it on the board for all to see, I would think that would merit respecting the privacy.
If, however, someone sends you something hateful for no reason, I might contact the mods and rather than post the message, I would first ask them to stop. If they continue, I would just state that x person is sending unsolicited PM's that are hateful. If it continues after that, I would post away.
PM's should not be used as a means to abuse others without any recourse.
Or, you could just block them.

I think I'd be kind of pissed if some of my PMs were posted- I send them under the assumption that the "P" means something. But I generally don't flame people.
Well, much.
Well, in PMs.

Posted: 1/19/06 at 4:16pmI see exactly what you mean, Plum, though I tend to operate under assumption that you should never put anything in writing (and I'd include internet communication with that) that you don't want anyone else to see.

Sueleen, why don't you post them and then we can better help you decide.
#13re: PM Question...
Posted: 1/19/06 at 4:26pmI just think if, like Sueleen says, it's an unsolicited flame, why keep it sacred? You certainly didn't ASK for it.

Basically, according to Di2, we're all fat, ugly and jealous of Paris Hilton because some of us think she's ugly.
Also, she (Di2) is apparently some big important actress, but in another thread (and PMs to another poster) talked about how she's some important recruiter.
Then she didnt have anything intelligent to say so she just started calling people things I wont dare repeat ON the board again via PM and everyone started posting the PMs on the thread.
She called me a bitch like it was a bad thing. lol
