And I thought DG got this weeks bad karma award.
Sweetie, don't they have scheduled activities in your Senior Housing Development to keep you busy? Shuffleboard, Mah Jong?
#31re: PM Question...
Posted: 3/8/06 at 2:33pmJeesh, I just asked a simple question. Do you think that PMs should remain private? Or do you think it is alright to pull them out to use to...I don't know...defend yourself? What if they are sexually explicit or make some threats? Then is it okay?
#32re: PM Question...
Posted: 3/8/06 at 2:35pmI say post 'em and roast 'em.
#33re: PM Question...
Posted: 3/8/06 at 2:36pmOh, and shuffleboard was canceled due to the rain and the fact that the captain of the opposing team fell and broke her hip. Talk about Karma!

i think if they're really hateful and if you don't identify the person, just their hateful words, it's ok.

oh, what’s the matter a**hole? can’t take a little does of your own medicine? i see the way you bully people here and i think its discusting. i have reported you to the moderators more than once. for some reason they refuse to ban you and your malignent republican views from this site. which one of them are you bl*wing? whoever it is, i hope you both get herpes! so i guess i will just have to let you know everyday what i think of you and your sh***y posts you d***less f***wad! see you tomorrow.

What if they're completely bizarre and from a poster you've never seen before and it makes you laugh? For example, this one I received last night:
Hey! from Tobias Ragg
on 3/7/06 @ 11:23:58 PM
My name's Toby. I live on Fleet Street.
I'm wondering how to get to Sesame Street from the docks.
Thanks,
Tobias Ragg

Phlegm Club from Plum
on 3/5/06 @ 12:56:15 PM
Great idea! We should do it and then post pictures of what we blow into the kleenex on the off-topic board. I just blew out some green stuff and it looks like Elphaba at the end of Defying Gravity!
And that demonstrates how it is easy to fake a nasty PM from someone when you are pissed at them. (Not that I am pissed at Plum, but I figured she'd be a willing guinea pig.) Not really any way you can disprove it unless there is a way moderators can tell what time pms are sent. Now I have a nifty screen capture option on a photo editing program but not even that is fool proof as it could be doctored.
#44re: pm question...
Posted: 3/8/06 at 3:10pmshe sent that to you too, son?

I would say that by using common ethics if someone sends you a "Private Message" that it should remain private. This would mean do not blatantly post PM's where someone is asking you a legitimate question or intelligently replying to one of your posts. In these cases their intent is to innocently communicate with you out of the public forum. However, if someone sends you a nasty PM that is meant to slander, insult, or belittle you, then I think it serves them right to have that PM posted on the board. There is no reason for you to keep their remarks private if they have broken the code of ethics by attacking you through a PM. Also, since there are no "laws" governing PM's, any sender should realize that they run the risk of others seeing what they wrote.

I always thought the private message function was to spare the rest of the board conversations which were "off" subject. (or for a request that the moderators might not like)
You shouldn't document anything that you don't want to see the light of day. Especially on a chat board.
