Shut UP!

I know...it's such a rude phrase.
But really...there are times when it's perfectly appropriate.
Like the headline of the Post today:
'It's 9-11 Nation Owes it to Victims to Re-Elect Bush: Rudy'
And I was all like 'SHUT UP!'

Shut UP has been responsible for two amusing moments in recent films.
1. Mean Girls: "you've never been to a high school before? Shut UP!" "Um, I didn't say anything."
2. Princess Diaries 2: "she said shut up? Shut UP!"

Posted: 8/31/04 at 12:25pmI do. He wasn't exactly Mr. Popular before 9/11, and then afterward he became some sort of saint, which he loved - he even tried to convince the powers that be that he deserved an "extra" term afterward. The man is a total famewhore, he dressed in drag on Saturday Night Live if you need proof. Any mayor worth his salt would have handled the 9/11 situation as well as he did, or better.

Posted: 8/31/04 at 12:25pmI love when Julie Andrews said "Shut UP!" That just made me laugh hysterically.

Posted: 8/31/04 at 12:29pmI used to love that car commercial with the girl hitting the salesman every time she said, "Shut UP!"

this is a story I probably shouldn't tell - but if the thread gets deleted - It will be my fault...anywhoo:
I worked with a young lady who had a friend who supposedly knows the star of Princess Diaries very well and claims that she (what IS her name? damn I hate getting old!) is a crack head (addicted, that is)...so now, whenever we see ads for the movie, my bf says to the tv screen "crackwhore!" and the other day - right when he said it, Julie Andrews' character said "shut UP" and he responded: "no - its true - really!"...I guess ya had to be there but I was p***ing myself laughing...

YES - Anne Hathaway - I can never remember her name - maybe in my mind she looks more like an Elizabeth or something - but Anne just doesn't stick with me (and gosh I hope the gossip is wrong!)
She's so cute and fun on screen.

Posted: 8/31/04 at 1:37pmJust for the record... I didn't object to "shut up" as much as the "menapausal housewife" part! How would you like it if someone responded to one of your posts by calling you a "biter bitchy screaming queen"!? I think you'd have something to say about it!

Do you have any idea how many times I've been called just what you typed.
Manymanymanymanymany.
And...in the end...I had no problem with your being offended. I just thought it would be fun to see how many times and in how many ways one can tell anyone to 'shut up'.
#14re: Shut UP!
Posted: 8/31/04 at 2:46pmWell... I'm sorry you've been maligned so many times. Anyone with an ounce of self-resepect should find it offensive. Especially if you're not what you're being called. And I can assure you, I'm NOT a menopausal housewife! Not by a long-shot! And IMO resorting to name calling exhibits a lack of intellect and imagination.
#15re: Shut UP!
Posted: 8/31/04 at 2:50pmIt's menOpausal. And MinNelli.

Actually...I'm quite a nice, funny, kind, loving sort of guy. I know it. And everyone who knows me knows it. That's why I don't get riled if someone calls me anything.
As for being a menopausal housewife...I see nothing wrong in being either one, or, indeed, both. My mother, the most remarkable woman I know, was a housewife. And being that she's turning 68 this year, she's well beyond menopausal.
Maybe there's something wrong with the perception that both you and the original poster of the remark have against menopausal housewives.

Posted: 8/31/04 at 3:10pmSilly me, but I took the phrase as a comment about one's new avatar rather than a personal attack.

Thanks for the spelling lesson Rath. I've corrected my post.
And robbiej... I have no reason to believe that you're not the kind, sweet, fun-loving person that you claim to be. But I'm neither menOpausal nor a Housewife. And yes... it was meant as a "slam" by the original poster, and that's why I took offense. Not because I think there's anything wrong with being menopausal or a housewife. But seeing as I have a penis, I'm pretty sure I don't qualify in either category.

" It's Curtain! I tell ya Rocky, CURTAINS!"... Dear, let it go. All in good fun, but perhaps a little tasteless.
"Menopausal Housewife" could mean a maturing domestic goddess ...( of course now that you've grown a penis that's a whole different category) Why I've earned titles such as a drunken hootchie mamma AND phoney Bee-itch, which at least... one of them is totally untrue.
BTW, I'll confirm that Robbie J, Voice Anth & Right Said Rick are all very 'nice young men'...if I could tell them apart...

Posted: 8/31/04 at 3:45pmI think the phrase "Shut Up" should be used everytime Rudy opens his mouth.

Curtains,
Don't let your penis stand in the way of being a menopausal housewife, if that's what you want in life.
