re: Sin City

Ooh...Elijah Wood as a baddie? You don't see that very often. That is one of the main reasons I'm thinking about seeing this.

Wood's role in this movie is the stuff that nightmares are made of.

Yorkie-

What did you think of Rourke's performance, or anyone's for that matter?

Rourke is currently on my shortlist for Best Supporting Actor, and that is something that no one who's seen the film can argue against. Last year, I put David Carradine on the same list for "Vol. 2" and he remained there all throughout the year.

re: Sin City

Rourke was great. I'd never really thought of him as a great actor, but this was a performance worth trumpeting. I also think I'm in love with Alexis Bledel. The way that she mixed innocence and sexuality was perfect. Clive Owen-one of my current favorite actors-was also great.

So far, it's my favorite film of the year. Then again, there haven't been many good films this year so far. I'm waiting with bated breath for Palindromes.

re: Sin City

Yeah, Bledl really surprised me. Who would have thought that she would make a great femme fatale?

There were some interesting changes in pace for a lot of the co-stars (i.e. Stahl, Hartnett, Wood, Owen, Dawson, Willis, Alba, etc.)

re: Sin City

I wish Carla Gugino had a bigger part, though.

re: Sin City

Same here. She's very talented and gorgeous.

re: Sin City

Clive doesn't show any skin, does he?

re: Sin City

I loved everything about the movie but I think it's awfully premature to be wondering about Oscars.

I'd be shocked if Rourke gets anything for Marv -- it's a pretty one-dimensional character. Sure he brings an affability to it and he's dead on in his performance but Oscar? I'd be surprised if any of the actors in this movie are even mentioned in Oscar talk. It doesn't have the bouncy dialogue of a 'Pulp Fiction,' nor do the characters arc noticeably.

re: Sin City

Popa-

I wasn't talking about the Oscars. I was referring to my personal choices. Rourke will never get an Oscar nomination for "Sin City". Not in a million years. But, I thought that he acted the role beautifully, and I really felt for Marv.

I think that his performance is one that won't garner as much awards notice as it should. I wouldn't complain if he managed to get even one critics award. They're loving him right now.

Oh, sorry munk.

I'm afraid that Owen doesn't have any nude scenes in the movie. However, he's as handsome as ever (surprise, surprise).

re: Sin City

now now..let's not fight...lost cause, I'll move on!

Anyway, this was not really my kind of movie but I did enjoy it. My friend, who is a fan of the comics was impressed at how they stayed close to them so I guess that's a plus for anyone who enjoys the comic. I'm not one for a lot of blood and violence and that really did start to bother me. My favorite thing about this movie by far was the use of color. It was just gorgeous visually and the choice of where to splash in color was fabulous. Oh and of course, Clive was gorgeous as well!

re: Sin City

I did have one completely unintentional laugh (a HUGE guffaw when the rest of the audience was dead silent), but I loved this film. I own the original Sin City comic featuring Marv...and Mickey Rourke. Wow. This is the kind of role that gets you work again. He is fabulous in every gay sense of the word.
I have no words to express my odd love for Bruce Willis. I just think he hung the moon (after Hudson Hawk, that is). He's wonderful in parts like this...and the cast is surprisingly excellent down the line.
I will say that my love for Elijah is now twisted thanks to his role here...think of the scariest Charlie Brown you could possibly imagine.

Oh, and for those who think there's a lot of violence towards women. There is, but you basically see one woman get hit for real (one gets knocked out but it's sort of a protective moment), one gets shot to death, one is killed but you never see it and, as for the rest, I give you one word: Miho.
Oh, how I do love me some Miho.

Dead serious. Don't mess around with Gail and the gang.
