Posted: 10/16/10 at 9:29pmI am waiting for the blu-ray. Not that I would mind seeing it on a big screen again.. but I have no patience for a sing-a-long with a mixed crowd.

Posted: 10/16/10 at 9:35pmI REALLY wish there were at least a couple of showings that weren't 'sing-a-longs'! I would love to see it on the big screen - but NOT under those circumstances.

Posted: 10/16/10 at 10:34pmI don't even care if it's a sing-along, it has always been my dream to see it on the big screen. I'm just happy to see those amazing Austrian hills in cinemas!

Posted: 10/16/10 at 11:51pmThe film needs to be seen the way it was filmed, in 70MM Todd-AO, not some cheap sing-a-long digital video presentation. I realize there remains only a precious few theaters that can show the film the way it was seen during its original road show release (an incredible experience), but it would still be nice for those cities to have the option.

I do agree that it should be seen the way it was meant to be seen, but this digital presentation/sing-along is the only option we have so I'm very grateful. Although, I am very jealous that you guys got see the 70MM Todd-AO presentation. I'm sure it was an awesome experience!

It looks like Cineplex in Canada is showing The Sound of Music next May (Presented at the 2010-2011 Classic Film Series). There's no indication that it's a "sing-a-long" so I'm assuming that it's not.

I've seen "sing-a-long versions" of West Side Story and Grease, and while they're sort-of silly fun, it does take away from the enjoyment of the movie as an actual movie.

Besides hating that they've taken one of the most finely-crafted motion pictures and reduced it to a 2-bit Rocky Horror, I also hate that they've completely eliminated the original iconic brand of the film. Over the past couple of releases, they changed both the photo and the title script, for something far inferior.
The Original and still the greatest!

Posted: 10/18/10 at 10:04pmLuckily I got to see it a lot on a huge screen at our local movie theater in the late 60's and 70's. It would show every year for a week. I would love to see it on a big screen again, but not with people singing along.
