But happily his teachers also dubbed him "Sir Clowns-a-Lot" so that barren childless future hasn't got him down! The American Education system is doomed...

Wow. I wonder if they were inferring he was gay or just unf*ckable. Either way, happy sixth grade graduation!
No Kringas, they meant that he is the only virgin in the 6th grade.
I do hope that those so called teachers face some serious consequences for this. Did they really think that it was funny?
Gee I wonder what would have happened if it was their child up there?
Well lets face it, for 10 he's not lookin' too good.

Looking at the picture, I'm guessing gay. Still, a pretty harsh thing to slap on a sixth grader.
Of course, I've read elsewhere that when he was presented with the award he snapped "Oh whatever! Miss Rogalski I wouldn't talk if I were you. If you end up married to that Shop Teacher you've been seeing the only kids around YOUR place will be the boyscouts he brings home! Now go back to the coat room and eat the leftover graham crackers as usual, Mmmmm Kay?"
I was the girl version of that in grade school. I repel boys for some reason (no snarky comments, please).
Most elementary schools put random categories like that in so that every student will get some sort of prize.
This is the kind of thing you're suppossed to do in the teacher's lounge...when the kids can't hear.
LOL! Oh, Joe!
I wish they did SH*T like this at my school!
I would've taken this over "Most Likely To Be a Guest On Oprah" any day!
I emailed the principal and school board and principal...poor kid!
I don't think think it's all that big a deal. I mean really. If this is going to cause emotional scars he has bigger issues than this.
I can't tell you some of the **** my teachers did at our end of the year assembly. It's not meant to be taken that seriously.
you know, I was totally with the family up until
Amy Sims said her son needs counseling because of the awards. The school has offered it, but an agreement on who will provide it has not been reached, Thomas reported.
Counseling- seriously? Man, I wonder sometimes how anyone in my generation ever made it out of school alive, what with the lack of counselors available anytime something bad happened to us. Explain that the teachers were wrong, have them apologize to the kid, sure, I can get and agree with all of that- but counseling?
And I also don't think I'm getting what 'most likely NOT to have children' is supposed to mean- is that supposed to infer never getting laid or something? Being too ugly to get laid? Because it's been my plan since I was about 12 to never have any children, so I'm wondering if I should be worried about something about myself...

I dunno. It's sort of school-sanctioned humilation. I don't see the problem with "Sir Clowns A Lot," but I don't see any justification for the never have children part.

When I read it, I assume they are calling him Gay. There is no greater shame for a 6th grade boy. This is a Theater board-- I'd guess a few on here knew the pain of being labeled by their classmates- I can't imagine what it would be like to have your teachers call you that in front of your peers.
it's probably some inside joke.
Like the teachers were always telling him "wait till you have kids and you'll see how hard it is to keep them in line" and the kid probably said "I'll never have kids!" as a snarky reply or something.
You know you never get the whole story in these articles.
Actually studies show this sort of thing IS a big deal. There's been a lot of publicity in the wake of Columbine on the effect of bullying. But recent studies show that isolation/humiliation in front of peers is much more damaging to a student.

I was someone who was tortured horrendously pretty much from the time I was in kindergarten till the time I graduated high school. Yeah, I survived it, but I often wish that someone (anyone, really) had stepped in and made things a little easier. I don't know the kid's situation or what led up to this, but I know that if I had been in sixth grade and was put up for ridicule in front of the school with teacher approval, I'd have been more than mortified myself.
And while it's true you'll never get the true story in the articles, having been on the receiving end of all sorts of humiliation it wouldn't surprised me if this was motivated by cruelty under the guise of humor. I'm willing to give the kid the benefit of the doubt until I hear otherwise.
Seriously? We had funny awards given out on swim team, summer camp, youth group, senior superlatives... No one ever had to enter therapy over it. Please. I think he has much bigger problems if he gets that bent out of shape over this; his parents don't need to use his teachers as a scapegoat.
I can understand the trauma this could cause a child, especially if he is sensitive.
To be humiliated by his teachers, in front of his classmates-about something he may not even be sure of the meaning, but does feel it's negative and that people are laughing-definitely!
off off-topic, but I love your sig Jane2.
Love yours too, Taz!
Too bad I had to find out that mine is true!
'I think he has much bigger problems if he gets that bent out of shape over this'
I think the fact that this could very well be taken as the mocking of the perceived homosexuality of a sixth grader is a huge problem. Not one of my grade/middle school teachers would have ever done that. Not a one. I think it's reprehensible. Speaking as someone who also was tormented daily by the students of my school, I found great comfort in the fact that my teachers were all extremely sensitive, supportive and, in many ways, protective of me. Had a teacher turned and made a comment like that, I would have been absolutely devastated.
But we don't know if that's what was meant by it.
