Yep, "Imitation of Life". Not only the death scene, but the funeral.
How about Bette Davis in "Dark Victory".

The opening of Jaws.

Justin Long's eyed getting ripped out in Jeepers Creepers. It's off-screen, so I'm not sure if it counts.

Billy pops out of a closet to suffocate Lynne Griffin in Black Christmas.

P.J. Soles is strangled by a phone cord in Halloween.

Drew Barrymore gets terrorized, then gutted, in Scream.

Ed Woodward being burned alive in The Wicker Man.

The opening of Ghost Ship.

Bridgette Wilson is mutilated by a wacky doctor in House on Haunted Hill.

And, the obvious: Janet Leigh's shower in Psycho.

Not favorite, persay (sp?), but one of the more emotional ones for me is Tom Hanks in "Philadelphia". I weep every time.

Most disturbing is probably the last scene of HEAVENLY CREATURES.

I thought Nicole Kidman's death scene in MOULIN ROUGE was pretty beautiful.

My first R-Rated movie: BONNIE AND CLYDE. It felt like the bullets kept coming for ten minutes - it was really only about ten seconds.
