Yeah, that blogger's whole theory is that the picture is quite obviously a "fake" in the movie. It's meant to deceive and be flagged as a falsehood ... all linking back to Hallorann's dialogue about "shining" just being fake and all "pictures in a book."
I'm not buying that. At this point, Jack is dead, so who is "faking" this photo, and in who's mind? It's not Jack's.
Danny's? He's left the hotel with his mother. The theory just doesn't hold up.

Posted: 8/17/12 at 12:05pmI'd say it is possible that the Overlook "faked" the photo, adding Jack to its collection of lost souls. Just like the Overlook puts a piece of paper in Jack's typewriter at one point.

Reg -- yes it does. There's that scene that begins with Jack typing, and the Bartok is on the soundtrack, and Wendy approaches him to tell him about the weather, and the music reaches a climax with a clash of cymbals as Jack rips the paper out of the typewriter. There's that ugly little scene where he really brutally tells her not to bother him when he's working ("Why don't you start now and get the f*ck out of here?"). As she leaves, Jack starts typing on a piece of paper that seems to have materialized out of nowhere.
Very scary Boys And Girls!!!

I vote deliberate. It works too well to be accidental.

Posted: 8/17/12 at 12:35pmCoincidentally, I started rereading "The Shining" just yesterday. I read it as a teenager--honestly can't remember if it was before or after the film--but I'm finding I don't remember anything of the novel. The film has so firmly lodged itself in my brain.

Someone brings up an interesting point on Youtube about this scene. You never see Grady let Jack out of the pantry. You never even see the door open. You just hear the locks.
And someone commented that Jack could have let himself out.

I have scratched my head over this eversince I first saw this AWFUL version,} I could give you numerous reasons why I dislike this film} IMO of King's Classic novel. It makes no sense.
But more importantly JORDAN, who the Hell is "THAT" in your Avatar?

No way! I know my limits when it comes to horror.
I'll stick to "The Shining." Far less disturbing and frightening.
