re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

indeed i am still here, i have just been so busy at work...

alas, it was the final four i wanted. i did love pasha, but it was his time to go, and danny has definitely started proving himself to me performance-wise. lauren has consistently gotten better and better for me, and was her very best during her solo last night. but there's no way she should have been there over lacey and/or sabra.

on a side note, i really appreciated sabra and lauren doing contemporary solos to up-tempo songs. this should be done more, rather than always have slow droopy songs that meld into the same thing when it's all you see all season.

i can't wait for neil and danny to dance together, and the top 4 dance is going to be amazing. can't wait for tonight.

Did we all know that Neil was in The Times They are a Changin'??? Somehow I missed that...good for him, booking such a hard core Twyla - umm.. creation.

Em, at this point, I don't think it matters much who stands out; people will vote for their favorite regardless. For instance, I, like a dope, made plans on Sunday to go see "Hairspray" tonight, forgetting that the SYTYCD finale will be on. However, as soon as I get home, the first thing I will do when I begin watching on Tivo is to find the phone number for Sabra and start dialing. I will watch and dial, watch and dial, watch and dial ...

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

I really like Lacey but her interview made me think that she is not passionate enough about dance to win. I also hated her solo dance costume. However, loved the waltz she just did and also loved Danny in this as well. Very entertaining show but still waiting on that wow factor!

Mom, I was thinking the exact same thing! She kept dancing, quitting, dancing, quitting, etc.

Then she said when her brother won, she decided to dance again. I'm not sure what I think at this point. She's very talented.

Danny's solo was amazing. Those leaps gave me goose bumps- they were perfect! However, it seems like the producers are trying really hard to soften Danny up this week. Even my daughter said she likes his personality better tonight than she ever has. I actually didn't love Danny and Neil's dance. I think last years dances were better. I don't cuss, but WTF was the Sabra/Lacey dance- very wierd. As my daughter said, tonight was the first night that Sabra didn't get glowing reports or good choreography. Maybe it will inspire people to vote for her!

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

I feel like Dan was the only one who actually "judged" Lacey and Sabra's dance. I thought it was so delicate and the detail and care in it were impeccable. The show tonight is amazing!

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

I LOVED Neil and Danny's dance. As in ADORED it. I think every season brings an awesome male duet. Jamile and Nick's hip hop, Tranji's hip hop, and now this.

I also loved Sabra and Lacey's dance. I got it for the most part, but what I was waiting for the judges to say was that even though they really didn't get the message, despite that, it was danced beautifully, because it was.

I didn't particularly like the "co-ed" dances. Neil and Lacey's lindy hop was a bit confusing and I didn't like Neil's performance as much as I usually do, although those lifts looked terrifyingly hard. Mad props for making it look as good as it did. The cha-cha was also good, but not a-mazing. Definitely better than the lindy hop, though, IMO.

The solos were all amazing, except for Lacey's. I just didn't see much at all. And I agree, after her interview with Cat I'm confused about her and what she's doing here. Despite all this, this was one of the only nights where I actually enjoyed Lacey as a person AND performer. Her kookiness tonight was nice.

Danny's solo made me smile so big. It was breathtaking. The leaps around the stage reminded me of Mr. Mistoffelees haha. Danny overall tonight won this whole thing. Based on tonight it should be between him and Sabra, IMO.

So, for me, after tonight, I have no idea what's gonna happen. As much as I finally enjoyed Lacey tonight, I would be happy with either Sabra, Danny, or Neil. I would love to see Sabra win this just to see her expression after the announcement. Something tells me that if anyone else won, they would have a more "It's about time all my hard word paid off," but I can see Sabra having a response similar to Benji's last season.

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

None of the dances were as entertaining as Benji's and Travis' nerd dance in last year's finale. Wow- can't believe no one has posted in almost an hour since the show ended! Did everyone go to bed or was is not exciting enough? My daughter kept saying that this was Sabra's worst night as far as negative comments from the judges. The cha-cha was not good. They looked so stiff. Lacey did well with the Lindy but Neil did not. I was surprised to see so much ballroom. That worked out well for Lacey as she was the only experienced partner dancer. It's anyone guess at this point but it seemed that Danny had the momemtum. Thought Nigel's comment that a girl should win was an insult to the guys. I saw Neil's face get an instant look of disappointment with that comment.

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

From the performances tonight, based on that alone, I'd have to go with Danny. But we all know that's not how these things work. :) I still love Sabra and Neil but they weren't the best tonight. I actually really loved Lacey and Sabra's number, and I agree with ComaBaby that I was surprised that they didn't comment on how beautifully danced it was, regardless of how effective they thought the concept was. I enjoyed Danny and Neil's number as well, but not nearly as much as the final dance from Tranji.

I'm looking forward to the results! But not all of the crap that leads up to the announcement in the two-hour time slot.

ETA: I'm trying to vote, for once, but the lines are busy. Unfortunate!

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

Danny had the best solo, but otherwise, he did nothing for me, as usual. I don't think he's grown. He did great solos all along. His Cha-Cha was really weak, imo. While I thought it was an entertaining season, no one impressed me the way Benji did, last year. For me, he remains America's Favorite Dancer. I don't want Danny to win this; but, I'll be happy with any of the other three.

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

Well, overall, I am rather disappointed with tonight's show: nothing really wowed me, I thought the judges were on crack, and if people are voting based on tonight, Danny may just walk away the winner.

I decided not to do a number-by-number review because, at this point, it is not about who can dance. They all can. No question. The highlights for me tonight were the Viennese waltz, which was lovely, the cha-cha, and the little foxes, which was the most intriguing choreography of the night.

I think the judges were overly harsh, criticizing dancers for the choreography. Neil and Sabra, it seems to me, did exactly what was asked of them in the hip-hop and did it well. Wade Robson's number, indeed, was weird, but to say there was no dance there to critique says to me that Nigel isn't worth his salt as a dance professional. There was as much dance in that number as there was in Mia's "princes" choreography, about which they, inexplicably, all raved. Lacey and Sabra were focused and controlled, and they demonstrated incredible skill as dancers and performers. And the mistake-filled lindy hop was the worst dance of the night. It lacked energy and excitement ... even Lacey, who normally can sell anything, was done in by it.

As for Danny, for the first time all season, I saw him truly enjoy himself ... in every number he did.

I still voted for Sabra as many times as I could.

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

If this was based on last night alone, I would want Danny to win, followed closely by Neil, then Sabra, then Lacey...AND YES I have always loved Danny, but Sabra has been my girl from way back when re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

That said, I still believe in my heart of hearts that Sabra will take this. She didn't overly impress me last night, but that's probably because they gave them the freaking hardest ballroom dances (the cha-cha is so much more complex than it looks). I loved her fox, I loved that dance! I thought it was different and interesting and intricate and well executed.

The Mia Princes number could have been spectacular if they had taken a breath and honed in some of their energy (some parts felt all over the place, but other parts were AMAZING, like when they were banging the sceptors on the floor.)

I still think tonight was on another level than last season, even if it didn't entertain quite as well.

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

I didnt love anything last night, but I liked the foxes number alot...I dont get what the judges were talking about! I really thought Dan would be the voice of reason, but why rag on the dancers? Sabra was fantastic and Lacey did well, too. If you dont like the choreography, dont take it out on the dancers! I will agree that it was mean to do such a number for the finale.

The cruelest was the hip hop critique...I hated the routine, but I dont think there was anything the dancers could've done.
The choreographers screwed with these kids tonite, and Sabra couldnt catch a break.

I voted for her about a hundred times, but I worry it wont be enough thanks to last night.

I didnt care for Mia's number tonite, though I liked it better than the daddy's little girl number.

I found the "princes" number to be off. It was more impressive during the practice overview. I almost never track with the judges.

Exactly, JB, it was off. I would've liked them to relax into it more...did Neil miss the lift over Danny's head, or do you think they changed it?

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

When it was announced that Neil and Danny would dance a Mia Michaels' rountine, my interest was definetly piqued. She is my favorite choreographer on the show, so I thought, "This should be interesting." I hoped that she would do something to defy convention.

Instead, Mia resorted to a stereotypical view of men as violent and competitive. Why couldn't Neil and Danny dance something like her father/daughter routine, or even Wade's mother fox/baby fox number? I would have liked to see the two same-sex dances reversed last night. Are we so afraid of seeing a man being something other than butch when he's dancing that he can't be shown doing anything but being the sexual aggressor with a female partner or engaging in battle with another man?!? (Huh, Nigel?!?)

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

I noticed the over-the-head miss, as well. I don't think it was changed, just not executed properly. Of course, had we not seen it in the practice review, it wouldn't have stood out, and might have been more impressive than it seemed.
