~FloweryFriend~'s 02:33:25 AM post absolutely boggles the mind. To actually claim to be undecided and then to mention her very strong feelings against Edwards before the debate began seems disingenuous at best. Then to decide that Edwards is evil while not even seeming to care about the incredible evil that Cheney and his company, (by the way, the current VP is still renumerated by Halliburton, which is illegal) continue to commit just seems willfully ignorant.
I thought it was nice that Edwards replied to the loophole question of Cheney's, which is way more than Cheney did about the incredibly egregious behavior of Halliburton. Every time somebody blows up an oil pipeline over there Halliburton makes millions patching it back up. You noticed that Cheney absolutely didn't even acknowledge the FACT that Halliburton set up an off-shore subsidiary so as to make profits in Iran while the US was engaging in sanctions against that country. You know, the country continuing to develop nuclear weapons.
He just shrugged it off.
Why should he care, he doesn't really care about politics, he cares about profits.
It's exactly that paternalistic "Because I said so, that's why," attitude of Cheney and Bush's that is so offensive. I want politicians who will engage with issues and their constituencies, the people they serve. It means actually FACING the contradictions and talking about them, not just changing the subject. Obviously, Cheney is going to continue to lie and tell people he never said there was a definitive connection between Al Quaida and Hussein even though he actually DID say exactly that on Meet the Press a year ago. But he said he didn't say it and it reminds me for all the world of Michael Jackson saying "I only had two surgeries on my nose to make me sing better." A total "Because I said so, that's why" response.
He's a creepy Darth Vader-like creature. I don't want him to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency, such as his heart is. As for Edwards not being experienced enough to step into the office, I shall invoke the line that all my Republican friends used variations on for the first few months after the election was stolen and Bush became president in a coup de court: "It doesn't matter if he is inexperienced, what matters is who he surrounds himself with." I trust the people a President Edwards would surround himself with way more than the very frightening cabal around the current administration.
