Let's see what you say next June!
You know I'm kidding! But I am enjoying my time off...even though I'm going back to do summer school next week....

So Kel, how is the room? How many students will you have in your class next year?
I have to add that I am completely jealous, because I was just evicted from my music room...that's right I'm homeless next year.....and spent last week packing and sorting the entire classroom to get ready for a partial hospitization class.

I feel bad because when I saw my room I instantly thought of you Wendy. I am taking over the art teacher's room. I feel bad about that, but it wasn't my call so there's not much I can do.
That being said, my room is fantastic. It is huge and I will only have 20 students- 10 boys, 10 girls. I got all of my teacher's manuals and curriculum stuff so that's what I'll be sorting through for the foreseeable future.

i had a "homeless" teacher in high school. he would bring everything on a cart from room to room. we never had class in the same room.

Kel, glad everything looks great. Is the school growing and adding an additional 4th grade?
Just so you know, I'm not at all upset with the teachers of the class who are kicking me out, I'm annoyed with the upper level administration who has decided that special ed is more important that regular ed, and music and art aren't that important. I can't even be mad at my principal because she had no say in the whole decision. But this is not my post for venting...it's to congratulate the great new teacher!!!

Posted: 6/13/07 at 10:58amThat does stink Wendy, I hope that they are able to find a room for you soon. I do know that at my school they will have a room for the art teacher again as soon as the construction is finished. The school has grown so that we need to have some classes in trailers. By this time next year we should all have our own permanent classrooms.

Posted: 6/13/07 at 12:01pmTrue. It is a small self funded school so they don't have much outside pressure to get rid of the arts programs there.

I hate to sound so down about it, but I don't envision getting my room back any time soon. The class that we're getting will be in our building for 3 years...at least to start. We also have another special needs class in our building.....and if I'm being completely honest...it's all these special ed classes that are taking away the music, art and computer rooms and even a few libraries.
The boom in special education...plus the fact that our school district gets extra money for each class they choose to accept.....means that most of the music teachers (and now art teachers) on the elementary school level are without a room. I understand that special education children need to be educated as well, but to take away a room that was used by 600 students last year for 10 kids??? Doesn't seem to me like the best use of space. But as our union rep said...." 'regular' kids don't have any rights...special ed kids do"

Please do not come on to this thread spreading your negativity for a career that brings joy (and yes, frustration as well) to so many. Teaching is a career in which you can change lives for the better or in some cases for the worse. Which are you doing?
