#1So, did YOU get a Facebook username?
Posted: 6/13/09 at 3:09pmFacebook is now allowing its users to have their own "address" or "username" for their profile, easily linkable. (i.e. facebook.com/broadwayworld will redirect to someone's profile). I was lucky enough to get facebook.com/johnsmith (obviously my name isn't John Smith, but I don't want to disclose my address). Has ayone here gotten one yet?

It's a stupid idea.
How is someone that you haven't spoken with in decades supposed to know anything other than your name?
Besides, if I can't have the user name Chesty McNipples, I don't want one.

Posted: 6/13/09 at 3:20pmI think it's more designed for networking, i.e. if you meet someone at a party and want to give them your Facebook, you can simply give them the address instead of them having to page through tons and tons of search results, especially if you don't have any mutual Facebook friends and have a common name.

Posted: 6/13/09 at 3:36pmI think it's annoying and unnecessary, but I still got my twitter name (part of my real name) so no one else would.

Jane,
That only works with friends you have approved.
#7re: So, did YOU get a Facebook username?
Posted: 6/13/09 at 3:43pmI don't really see what people are complaining about. If you don't care about it, it's not going to affect anything. If you have a common name and use Facebook for networking, it can be very useful to have an easy URL to give to people.

I'm possibly (probably) just being incredibly dense today, but how does one go about acquiring a user name?
#11re: So, did YOU get a Facebook username?
Posted: 6/13/09 at 4:11pmThere should be a window that pops up at the top of your home page.
#12re: So, did YOU get a Facebook username?
Posted: 6/13/09 at 4:46pmI don't want my Facebook profile to be that accesible, so no.
Wanting life but never knowing how
#13re: So, did YOU get a Facebook username?
Posted: 6/13/09 at 4:50pmI did...but I don't intend to give it to anyone.

I'm not seeing it. No pop-ups, nothing in settings, nothing useful at all.
#15re: So, did YOU get a Facebook username?
Posted: 6/13/09 at 4:55pmI did it. When I google my name it directs me to a page of a large woman wearing a tshirt that says "Queen". It does not appear to be me....

Weez... you just go 'Home' and it says it in a little box at the very top.
You may NEVER know my user name :)

The only box at the top is the one encouraging me to change my status. Although further up and to the left is the "search for a person" box. *shrugs* I guess Facebook doesn't want me having a jaunty username! XD

Weez - log into Facebook, go to the help page, (click on HELP at the bottom of your screen) In the search box, type in USERNAME it will take to a page about Usernames.
In the list of Help Topics, USERNAME:GENERAL INFORMATION, go to the 2nd entry. "Where can I get a username" click on that...and it will take you where you need to go.

You, sir, are a bright shining star in the BroadwayWorld heavens. Thank you a whole bunch!
Firstname.L.Surname is now me. I feel like such a massive dork having those periods in there, but FirstnameLSurname just didn't work, and the middle-initial-free variations were already taken. Ah well. ^_^

My name was obviously too common/didn't get there fast enough to prevent a nasty 1 or 2 after it.
Was going to go for something witty, but I figured I'd get bored of it quicker than I would of my real name...

It makes sense because like myspace or YouTube, it simplifies the web address.
http://www.facebook.com/Jerby is much easier to communicate whether web link, business card, or speaking than a series of slashes and numbers.
And this will be especially helpful for fan pages and business pages, etc.

PG2 is right.
It's only more complicated and you would have to know that persons user name to find them.
Why bother changing? My real name is good enough.
