Album Cover. Who cares if she is airbrushed, she looks GREAT!
You can listen to 'Here's to Life' here. I really like it!

Is it too much to hope this one is not boring?
I don't mean to rain on the poster's parade but the cover and song list has been out for a few weeks.
As to the shrewd poster re 'boring,' there are clips on the songs on her site and an entire cut on the PARADE site and sad to say that every song sounds the same in re to vocals and excruciatingly dull arrangements by Diana Krall.
The deluxe edition of the CD will be 2 CDs: one of the Krall quartet and the other of BS singing with a fuller orchestration. The cheat is that the vocals are the same on the 2 CDs.
Since BS got married, her vocal energies have diminished to the point where she sounds like an old yenta from Larchmont. No wit, no drive, no color. Shame on her for succumbing to laziness.

I am not saying her last few albums haven't been boring. They have. I am not saying I think this new album will be any different. It sounds like it will be very musically monotonous again. However, I hate the word laziness in relation to her. I did say it in another thread, but to me that is just absurd (even if Barbra has used the word in regards to herself). Maybe she's just a little tired. She is now 67 years old, and has accomplished more and been more prolific in almost every area of entertainment than most.
Oh, and as "boring" as Here's To Life sounds, her voice is just as magical and golden as ever (at least to me)
BS has been notoriously lazy all her professional life. How many projcts for film and music were discussed, some optioned, and none produced.
How many years ago was she going to direct THE NORMAL HEART? Meryl Streep is less than 10 years younger and is going at full steam ahead, whether you like her or not.
Yes, BS has been lazy and driven, childish and brilliant, generous and a pain in the a**. And now, she is just a bore. Which is the worst sin of all for any artist.
Can Forbidden Broadway please come back just for a Barbra parody called "I Am a Bore" to teh tune of "Love is a Bore".
How about "The Way I Were"?

Notoriously Lazy is laughable. All artists discuss many projects--film and music--that don't come to fruition. The Normal Heart is the only true example you can come up with her "not following through" on something that was seriously in consideration to be made.
To list all of Barbra's accomplishments in her first ten years alone in the entertainment field is mind boggling and really can't be topped. So I'm okay if she is not at it full steam ahead at 67. (I would like her recent albums to be a bit more exciting, but whatever).
Honey, you are playing in the big leagues now. I can give you at least 15 projects that were discussed and never happened since day 1. Take off the second hand rose colored glasses please.
If Meryl can make movies so can she. Her marriage to Lurch is the best excuse she has ever had for not working.

I love it when people proclaim themselves to be "in the big leagues" implying that the other person who happens to not agree is not (so what if 15 projects she once "discussed" did not happen? That really proves nothing about how much she has accomplished in her career with the zillions of other projects that did happen)
Fine. She's Lazy.

So I'm okay if she is not at it full steam ahead at 67.
I'd be happy if she could just reach partial humidity.
I'd settle for her to be slightly moist.
I think that ship has sailed.
Why does Babs think we want to hear the same sound over and over and over again?
If you took her last handful of CDs and played them together without a pause no one could tell where one song ended and the next one began. Not that I would suggest anyone attempt that to find out. "Folks, don't try this at home."
She's like one giant NyQuil capsule in the same key. Maybe it should have a warning label: Do not operate heavy machinery while listening.
I do like this album cover a lot ... but that photo has to be from about 15 years ago. Or she hired Weta Digital to do the retouching.
I don't think I'd be so bitchy about it if she wasn't still professing to be such meticulous perfectionist with everyone and with herself. She's not anymore. Hasn't been for many years. Yet she plays the part.
She never would have settled for these last few CDs, back in the day (and you have to go WAY back). She is trying to be "safe and pretty" now, both on the cover and on the audio tracks.
And that's not perfection. At least not artistic perfection.
I'd leave her alone if she just "entertained" and wasn't so fussy about it.
In high school I fell asleep to her Back to Broadway album in the bathtub and almost drowned. True story.
That photo cover is so airbrushed it might as well be a painting.
And Donna Karan isn't even trying anymore is she?
Right now there is a QVC lovefest for the album in a 30-minute spot for the album with professional asskisser Richard-Jay Alexander gushing about BS and the new album.
The fact that he does not seem to get is how fans are going to be cheated: the deluxe edition of the package features the Diana Krall elevator quartet and the other CD features a full orchestra. The cheat is that the vocals are the same! BS could not be bothered apparently to sing the songs twice.
It's the same vocal with two different orchestrations? Oh Babs!
Yup. Unless there is a last-minute change you will hear the same vocals. The fine Johnny Mandel did the orchestrations: to what? a tape her of singing?
Even Helen Keller knows that you do not sing in the same way with a quartet as you would with an orchestra.
The late Peter Matz is rolling over in his grave.
Now I am angered by her even more!
Uh...I thought this was going to be with just a jazz combo. What's with the strings?
She sounds fine, but for the first time, she sounds...tentative.
One CD has the jazz quartet; the other CD is the same but with strings and things. And, the vocals are the same!
Would it have killed her to re-record the songs?
She's too busy on vacation. From what???
