My throat has been sore for about a week now. It started going away a few days ago--but I woke up this morning to an incredibly sore throat again. Do you all think I should use Ricola or Halls for it? If it doesn't go away in the next 3 days or so, I'll probably go to the doctor. I don't think sore throats are supposed to last this long..
Halls dont work for me, so I say ricola
They're not.
I'd suggest you gargle with warm salt water. Salt is an astringent, and if it's something minor, it should take care of it.
Ricola.
Parks, what have you been putting down your throat?
And, follow DD's advice.
Warm salt water works WONDERS!
It tastes quite disgusting but gargle before you go to bed and your throat will be much better the next morning!

Aspirin will also help, but if it has lasted a week you should go see a doctor.

Thanks for all the quick responses!
I've had 1 Ricola and 1 Halls this morning. The Halls tasted much better, but did nothing. I felt a little bit better after the Ricola. I'll try warm salt water.
and YWIW, I'm a good boy--thank you very much.
try the saltwater a couple of times a day... especially when you first wake up to get rid of whatever overnight gunk and before you go to bed.
Halls and Ricola, IMO, are more like a 'band aid' than a remedy.
On a more serious note, if it persists, go to a doctor.
Better safe than sorry.
Yeah, as gross as the salt water is, it works.
go to the damn doctor Parks.....a week is NOT good.

Are you serious?
This is random but do you like the taste of Robitussin?
If gargling with salt water doesn't work after a couple days, go see a doctor.

Just gargled salt for the 2nd time...I didn't stir it this time, so the last gargle was REALLY salty--all the leftover salt at the bottom went into my mouth and stayed under my tongue after I spit it out :-/. Not good.
It's feeling worse. I'm thinking I'm gonna go in the next 2 days if this doesn't improve.

lol I'm going through the same thing, except its lasted two weeks . I have my doctors appointment tomorrow. Anyways I would definitely say ricola...because it's been working the best for me even if it is only short term. Also...as you learned lol the salt water is gross but it works most of the time! Hope you feel better!

Are you guys using cough drops now?
A few times when I have felt a sore throat coming on, I would start to suck on cough drops right away, but my sore throat wouldn't go away for a while (A week, or two). WHen I would stop using them, I would get a full blown cold. It was kind of like i was keeping the cold at bay by using the couch drops. And, the only thing i know to do is let a cold run its course. So, maybe not use cough drops, see if it's just a cold or something.
sheesh... thanks Parks. Now I have a sore throat.

If it's a cold and not just a sore throat, use zicam. It's a life saver. Trust me.

The more important question is:
Is it pronounced "Ri-COLA" like the announcer says it on the commercials, or "REEEEEE-cola" like the dude with the big Alpen Horn yells?

I like Ricolas more myself... Coldeeze are good too but they dry out your mouth a lot.

I trust the Alpen source - so REEEE-cola is my preferred pronunciation. :)
Parks - I will beat a dead horse here, but get yourself to a doctor - a week is too long!
Do you have allergies? Allergies often cause sore throats, and unless you are sick (which is why you should see a doctor today), it could explain why it is lasting.
But in the meantime, Ricola, Salt Water and a doctor's appointment are you pals.
Feel better!
