But the second ounce has dropped to 17 cents from 24 for letters.

If you mail a large envelope they are nailing you 80 cents for the first ounce which is a ripoff. More expensive for actors to send headshot photos, for example.

I hate the way the post office webpage does this downloadable file crap instead of just giving you pages you can click to with the info you want. I don't want their stupid files on my computer and it is so lazy of them:

They've been 48c here for ages, and that's about 60c in USD.

Holly, if it's a 39 cents stamp like my Longfellow ones you are can get 2 cent stamps.

Where are you, vmlinnie, that it has been 48 cents in foreign currency?

This has been a rockin' year for stamps. Full of gay icons. We of course had the lovely Judy Garland stamp, a Tallulah Bankhead stamp, and the Hattie McDaniel stamp.

actually it's tomorrow the rates go into effect, anything in a USPS or a mailbox collection point today will go out at 39 cents.
And as linnie points out, we are far cheaper than almost anywhere else.

Yup, Ireland. 48c as in Euro.

We have crap stamps here. We have really cheesy christmas ones, and the rest of the year it's birds. Lots of different birds. And before we changed to the Euro what were on our coins? Yup, birds.

Booo-ring.

But no-one ever knew which way they were supposed to be! Everyone thought that the bird side was the 'face' of the coin, but in fact it was supposed to be the back, the harp on the other side was the 'front'. So, instead of heads or tails, we had harps or wings. We suck so much!

Oh Lord. Can you imagine if George Bush ever gets put on a coin? I have a feeling it would look something like that little fella there in your avatar, linnie.

As more & more people use email, less & less people will use regular mail. the Post office will be forced to raises rates quicker. I give this new rate about 2 years

Yes, and the Post Office couldn't get anything delivered on time if they tried.

Is it a wonder that they are so hated? The employees at my local PO are the laziest, and most rude employees I've ever met.

One example: I had 4 boxes shipped to me from Michigan. 3 of them were filled with CD's and the fourth was items that had been in my family for years. All were insured.

The CD's arrived fine, but the box with the irreplaceable items looked like it had been through the wringer. I tried to file an insurance claim, but they wanted all of the items so they could determine how much THEY though the items were worth. I was told that I wouldn’t get the items back either.

How can they tell me how much my dead Grandfather’s items are worth?

The Post Office is useless and should just be put out of business.

Do we have the same post office or is that NYC in general?

I'm in LA.

I have a PO Box down the street because the boxes in my building are REALLY old and small.

The guy who delivers the mail here tells me that the PO where I have my box is the one employees go to to die.

They are all just waiting for thier pension.

Hell, it's not even open on Saturdays!

Now we gotta restock on those stupid 2 cent stamps. They aren't even attractive!

I work at a hallmark, and this should be more fun for us: the song cards already cost 5 dollars, and now they have to have even more postage then they already did. Wonderful.
