Yeah, it's just you. No, seriously, it's you. Dedicated fanbases who passionately defend their favorites have been around forever. I find the constant need of some on here to complain about how horrible stans are to be more tiresome and annoying than anything they do. The incessant whining on here about Be More Chill "stans" was just ridiculous. If they bother you, don't engage with them and then they won't try to "take you down". And if you think this behavior on twitter is exclusive to these mean, mean stans, go to a tweet by Charlie Kirk or some other Trump loving pundit, criticize Trump and see what happens.

I totally understand defending something that you love, but if it gets to the point where you're bullying, like ACTUALLY bullying other people, isn't that a BIT much? It's unnecessary. Someone I know asked if they could like a show. It's gotten to the point where stan twitter decides whether or not you can like something...or am I wrong? I feel like a bunch of people who aren't part of that live in constant fear-not being dramatic-about what they post because they're worried people will attack them for not sharing their views, or because if they don't, it means they're against a group of people or a community. Obviously that's how it works....No. Wrong. You don't get to decide what someone is just because they saw a show or something that you don't like. I just don't think it's okay that people are afraid to like things. I know someone who really likes a certain actor and wanted to see a show they were in, but because of social media and how people have responded to the show the actor is currently in, they felt they couldn't write anything about that show, or the actor. Correct me if I'm wrong but even the most passionate fan wouldn't tell someone they can or can't like a show....

I'm sorry. I guess I'm just past the point in my life where I truly worry about people I don't know and have no relationship with saying mean things about my tweets on twitter. It's not like you have to deal with these folks in real life at school or at work etc. and can't avoid them. I would definitely have concerns about bullying if that was the case but you can make the people on twitter completely go away with one mouseclick. Honestly, who cares? I'm trying to make the point that it's not just these musical theater stans who are mean and bossy on twitter. Lots of people are on all kinds of topics. There are lots of mean, nasty people on twitter. That's not news. In addition to ignorance, jealousy and fear, a lot of it comes from their having anonymity. Is it right? Probably not but it's the culture we live in right now. You can either respond to them in kind, choose not to engage with them, block them or if they violate twitter's rules, report them.. Those are your choices. Spending more time complaining about it on here in the hope that people agree with you will not change anything that happens on twitter.

You're so right. Ugh. I wish I were better at blocking them out. I guess I want them to know that it is impossible to control what shows people like! Just because you have a problem with a show doesn't make it okay for you to bully anyone who sees it. I wish they understood that. You can not control what people like. If they have a problem with it, they need to learn a better method of dealing with it than just saying something is "cancelled" and insulting everyone who does see it or expresses interest. People can't be afraid of them. It's ridiculous. I do know someone who saw Tootsie, which is a very sensitive show and topic, and they expressed how they saw it and enjoyed it. Stan twitter came out in full force, calling this person transphobic, saying they were against this community by seeing it, it totally blew up. It was 100% bullying. They attacked her in a way that no one else who has seen that show has been attacked. People are always preaching about mental health and then they turn around and do this?? I just don't understand. It's so frustrating. But next time something like this happens I will definitely block anyone who says one insulting word.

Its really just best to ignore twitter. Its not a knock against you, but you're not going to stop the or what they do. Its just how twitter operates honestly. Usually its cult like which are always hard to break apart. I think twitter is one of the most unhealthy parts of society right now.

Regardless whether they're fans of anything, bad behavior is bad behavior. Anyone attacking people for enjoying Tootsie isn't capable of objective analysis. I stay off Twitter. It's mostly a cesspool.

And really, WHY bring it up here, too? You are going to get the same exact responses that you got there. You need to just let things go. People you don't know shouldn't be given the power to hurt you. We cannot change other people, we can only change our reaction to them.

We're agreeing on something! =) It really is one of the most toxic parts of social media. I think you're also right to deem it a cult-that really is the best way to describe it. Ugh. They need to get over themselves.
Ps. I think someone here mentioned it and I am taking the steps towards working with a therapist. Maybe that will help.
