I will be in New York City next week to see Hair and Ragtime. How difficult is it to get a single stand-by ticket to be in the audience of The View? I would love to see Queen Latifah next Thursday when she is appearing on The View. Should I even bother to try? If so, what time would I have to get there?

I've done standby for THE VIEW countless times. I usually get in, with the exception of the previous four times I tried when I was rejected.

If I remember correctly, they don't pass out the standby vouchers until 8:30AM. I usually got in line at 6AM, and have always been a number between 1 and 15. I have been #1 before and didn't get in. I have been #27 before and have gotten in. It's really a crapshoot and it's truly unpredictable as to whether or not you can get in.

When you arrive at 6AM, dress warmly and don't bring a lot of stuff with you. After you receive your voucher, you have about 90 minutes to go and get breakfast and whatnot. There is a BARNES & NOBLE 3-5 blocks away which opens at 9AM. Wait for the doors to open, go read a book, use the restroom, and go to the third floor for some coffee & breakfast. There is also a Cafe Europa across the street from B&N for a better selection of breakfast.

You will be passing by Lincoln Center & La Guardia School for the Performing Arts on the way to B&N. Walk through the Center, it's beautiful.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Great advice CapnHook. Thanks for the suggestions. Is there a separate line for stand by or do I have to let someone know when I arrive that I do not have a ticket?

An intern normally takes charge and will show up at around 8AMish. There are two separate lines, one for ticket holders and one for standbys. Ticket holders normally don't show up until 9AM.

When you show up, the entrance to the studio building is further down the block closer to the corner. However, the line will begin further back down the street directly behind the truck delivery gate. The intern will generally place a "THE VIEW LINE BEGINS HERE" sign at that spot at around 8AM, however sometimes security will place that sign out earlier.
