Hi BWW.
I just received a very sad call from my father about 10 minutes ago. My cat, Star is about 17 years old. I received an email from my dad yesterday or the day before saying that Star had been sick and had not been eating, but after taking her into the vet, they thought she had something wrong with her tooth. She had started eating more, but has still been losing weight. My dad just called me to let me know that the vet thinks she has a tumor--and had asked my father for permission to put her down. It's something I have been so afraid of for a few years now--and the timing is horrible, as I am coming home on Saturday for Spring Break. I asked my dad to pet Star a few times for me before they put her down and he said he wanted to bring Star home from the vet for one more night so he could spend some time with her.
I still haven't quite comprehended what it is going to be like without her... I broke down for a few minutes on the phone... and I'm sure I'll break down several more times over the next few days. The BWW community is always so supportive when people lose their pets, and I ask you to please keep Star and my family in your thoughts and prayers over the next few days.
Star has been with me for most of my life (pretty much all that I can remember anyway). She became a strange cat over the last few years. She was scared of most people, but she was always very comfortable with me--slept with me almost every night I was at home. She has been my best friend at home.
Here is a picture of us from Thanksgiving break. Not the best picture, but it's one of the most recent ones.
I love you, Star.

Sorry about that. That's sad news.
I'm sorry
It's always difficult to lose a pet, especially when the animal is practically a family member.
*hugs*
I'm sorry Parks. I know it's really hard to lose a beloved pet.
This is making me sqeeze my cats extra tight...
I'm so sorry.
Parks, I am so sorry honey.
I know it does not help much right now, you have been so lucky to have her for so many years.
I know this is hard. Hugs to you and to Star.
I'm sorry. I lost my cat, Cloudy, a few weeks ago too. He was 18.
I'm sorry Parks...
I'm so sorry to hear that. What a fabulously long life she had! I'm sure she loved every minute she had with you and your family. *hugs*
i'm really sorry... your star sounds like my molly. she was 15 and we basically grew up together.
it's so hard to lose a pet, especially one who has been a part of your life for such a long time.
our vet gave this to us when we lost molly, and i've since passed it on to anyone i know who is losing or has lost a pet. it's called "a dog's plea". i know it's about a dog, but i feel like it really applies to any pet.
Treat me kindly, my beloved friend for no heart in all this world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick for though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me learn.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail, when your footsteps fall upon my waiting ear.
Please take me inside when it is cold and wet for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements.
I ask no greater glory than to have the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.
Keep my pan filled with water for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.
Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, wiliing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
And my friend, when I am old and no longer enjoy good health and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going, I am not having fun.
Please see that my trusting life is taken gently.
I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your hands.

Oh Parks. I lost my cat after just shy of 20 years. I bawled for a week. I still choke up missing her, even though I have a cat now I love with all my heart. It doesn't get any better but it doesn't hurt as much.

I am so sorry. But Star has had a wonderful life, thanks to you and your family. God bless you, and her.
Oh, Parks. I'm so sorry. But how lucky she was to have you to love her so much and how proud she must have been to see you grow up.
I am so sorry Parks, it is hard losing a pet and this is bad timing.

Thank you, everyone for keeping my family in your thoughts. It's nice to have such a wonderful support group here at BWW. :)
Parks, I'm so sorry to hear about Star. You're in my thoughts.
I just saw this thread...so sorry for your loss! Know that you and your family gave her a wonderful home full of love.
I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Star. You were so lucky to share each other's lives for so long. I'm sure the void caused by her absence will be painful, but hopefully your memories and the knowledge of how much you loved Star, and how much she loved you, will comfort you. I’ll keep you in my thoughts.
I'm so sorry, Parks! It's not going to be easy. It's exactly like losing a member of the family.
I just read this post at work, and I had to explain to two co-workers why I'm crying. :'-(
I'm so sorry. Star is a beauty and it is obvious she had a good life and was loved very much. Best to you and your family.
