The last I heard was that it was pushed to February 2011. I hope that's still the case.

The source that first reported it has now corrected it. It is still planned for a 2011 release.
'As pointed out by reader Alexander in comments, Beauty and the Beast producer Don Hahn mentioned at the D23 Expo last year that the re-release has been postponed until some time in 2011 (exactly when has not yet been determined), primarily to have it coincide with the film’s 20th anniversary. Hollywood trade publication Variety actually reported the news this past October in a piece about releases scheduled for 2011, to no fanfare online.
How this all got past myself, John, and others, I do not know! Disney PR didn’t tell me of any such change, only that the re-release had been dropped from their schedule for this year. Still, my apologies.
As honestly embarrassed as I am to be having to correct a story so thoroughly, I’m exceedingly happy that the release of one of my favourite Disney classics in 3-D has not been cancelled or “postponed indefinitely”.'

Now we have to wait till 2012 or longer because Disney wants audiances to be able to get use to 3-D home transition! I'M SUPER PISSED AT DISNEY FOR DOING THIS! The only movie I really look foreward to in a few years is "The Dark Knight" sequel! The re-releases of "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2" got people excited for "Toy Story 3." There is nothing wrong with re-releasing this film in 3D.

I still don't get what the point of this in 3D is. The movie is classic and beautiful as is. 3D is just about money. I can't imagine it's really going to ADD anything to it. As much as I love the movie (we have 18 inch B and the B figurines from Disney in our living room), unless everyone says it's the greatest thing ever in 3D, I think I'll skip it.

3D or not, I can't wait for the re release. I can't even begin to tell you how much I miss seeing classic Disney films on the big screen every seven years. Nothing would make me happier than if they decided to return to doing that because I don't think you've lived until you've seen SLEEPING BEAUTY on a 40 foot screen.

Honestly, that clip beautywickedlover posted doesn't look any different to me than it normally does, with the exception that the hand-drawn parts look really obvious compared to the CG of the ballroom.

i've said it once before but i'll say it again... saw the first 10 minutes of the movie in 3D at last year's comic con and it looked absolutely STUNNING! i cannot wait to see the entire thing in 3D!

I'm not a fan of movie theaters, or 3-D movies for that matter, but if this does happen, I will definitely be there! Beauty and the Beast was the first movie I've ever seen in theaters (1991) and still remains my favorite. I could actually see this coming out beautifully!

I have to admit, it threw me for a bit of a loop when it mentioned that next year is the 20th Anniversary of its release. Crazy to think that so much time has already passed.
I don't agree with it. It just promotes bestiality. If you let them have their Disney movies in 3D, soon the gays will want theirs in 3D!

I think the gays already have a larger stake in the Disney movies than they want to admit.
I didn't notice anything all that different either.
I hope that the BD is still on for a Fall release. I am so excited for that!

We don't have to wait for the film to be released in 3D here in America to see the film again in theaters. There will be an HD sing-along verison that will play in theaters on September 29 and October 2.

Well, we do have to wait for a 3D release. The sing-a-long is HD, not 3D.
I hate this grotesque trend of trying to make first-rate films, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. That works because, quite frankly, the film is a rather mediocre entity, with nothing much to offer on its own. Films such as The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins and Beauty and the Beast, are finely-crafted motion pictures, which in no way need the stupid audience to make them enjoyable. In fact, the experience of seeing them on a big screen is diminished by this. I wish the generation that is so into themselves, that they can't leave well enough alone, would just die or go away or something.
