Posted: 10/23/05 at 1:00amI'll see it because I'm curious, but I'm very skeptical. Forrester seems very limited as a director - and while I liked NEVERLAND, the direction was not good - and I hated MONSTER'S BALL. The cast intrigues me here, but after reading all the negative reviews, I'm not expecting much.

I honestly think that most reviewers just have no idea what the hell they saw. I thought it was pretty well done, and definitely a movie that needs to be watched again. Here's the thing, if you just take it at the surface, then the movie is meaningless - you really DO need to look at what Forester is trying to say (which is actually, to my mind, a very similar message to what he was saying in Finding Neverland). I'd love to hear other people's thoughts.
BTW -- Roger Ebert got it right in the last paragraph of his review. He didn't give it away, but I think he got it.

The only thing that bugs me though is that I have to drive like, an hour/45 minutes to go see it. The movie theaters closest to me don't have it, not even the Lowes Cinaplex. When I called they told me it was because of the "low celebrity power"..but..I mean almost EVERYONE knows Ryan Gosling from The Notebook and Naomi Watts is an Oscar-nominated actress. Pissed me off.
Anyway, regarding this as one of Ewan's movies, it has a lot better publicity than The Island. I hated how one of the producers blamed The Island's downfall on Ewan and Scarlett.
ANYHOO
I'm really excited. Honestly, I thought I knew what it was about but now I'm reading some reviews and I'm not so sure. Which makes it better I think, I'll be surprised.
