Okay, that's it. This thread will be gone shortly. Joe used the "d" word.

If I've followed any of this (which is unlikely, at best,) he discovered the phone was missing when he reached for it to turn it off. Since it was missing, he didn't actually turn it off - which means it would ring when he called it.
This is why I just don't carry one of the evil little things.
I am just too damn cheap to pay that much for an unreliable toy.
Yes, that's why it rang, DG! that's what I meant, lol.
"I am just too damn cheap to pay that much for an unreliable toy."
And you know it's an unreliable toy from the personal experience of using the one you don't have because you are too damn cheap buy it?
I didn't read through the whole thread...but anyway there's no way to track it.
"Ok, Jilani-I just figured it out. You're right. Here's the thing. When I call friends and their phones ring and ring and ring, I'm assuming their phones are off, when in actuality, they just don't hear them, or they're on another line. I just called my own phone while it was off, and it went right to voice mail."
or in the case of an IPhone they can see it's you calling (visual voicemail) and perhaps don't want to talk to you Jane, hehe
I have trouble beleiveing that the theatre worker took the phone.
Most likely it just got knocked away or something.
And going to the cops is pointless. There is noting they can do.
hopefully you have already called ATT and had the service stopped today.
this has been an ongoing problem at that theatre: pickpockets getting hired on as ushers and ticket takers so that they can fleece the patrons. i hear they kick back 25% to the cast. look at the bright side, some broadway star might have your phone right now.
Perhaps if you had upgraded the software Apple or AT&T can track it with the new Quasi GPS they have in it. They now KNOW where you are at ALL TIMES (scary paranoid music sting!)
I have a GPS in my phone, so if I'm ever lost in the woods, I can be found, so I assume they can locate the phone if it were lost.
Not like I'm ever in the woods or anything like that...
But it's nice to know if my car ends up under a bridge somewhere, I can be found.
exactly as Snafu says....once you plug it into your computer and log into Itunes it will tell you if an upgrade is available......it's the only way to keep up to date

I was just thinking... If you were looking for the phone to turn it off, it was on... therefore it would ring because from what I gather, you didn't get a chance to turn the phone off. So it makes sense for the phone to ring. that's just a disposable fact though
I'd go back to the theatre tomorrow with another phone and dial your number to see if any of the ushers ring.
Or vibrate!

I never said it was the theater worker. I said she told me to put my wallet away--there was a sketchy man outside who possibly did it.
I just went and bought a Go Phone for 40 dollars and it's now my phone for the next few months.
If you ever lose a phone--don't buy another one from your service provider! Just buy a pay as you go phone from a Best Buy or Walmart and you save so much money. I saved 90 dollars :-P. The phone is a piece of crap, but whatever!
Excuse my ignorance, but aren't iPhones REALLY expensive?
Since I get the insurance, my provider will replace it. Usually a good thing to get when you sign your contract. It's a couple bucks a month.
Yes Miss P, they are a few hundred dollars.

Okay. I just went to the Apple site. They start at $400.
My question is...if you're happy with a 40-buck phone, why did you need an iPhone to begin with?
My question is if you pay that much money for a phone, why wouldn't you get the insurance?

AT&T doesn't offer insurance on the iPhone or, believe me, I would have gotten it. It would be stolen too often for them to offer insurance, the rep told me tonight.
Sorry--regarding the "don't ever buy one from your service provider's store"--I meant as a temporary phone.
If I had the money, I'd buy another iPhone, but I'm running low and I just quit my job last week--so I'm stuck with this one till I get another job in April!
I'm pretty darn sure they offered insurance on the Iphone when I bought mine.....but that was in the beginning. Who knows now.
I didn't buy it because no matter what kind of phone I have ever had, I always know where it is......and usually on stuff like this insurance is a way for them to make more money.....preying on peoples fears.
Elphaba--I used to feel the same way about insurance plans AND service plans.
Now, I figure that electronic devices are so fragile, I'd rather figure the service plan./insurance into the purchase price and have peace of mind when something goes wrong.
That stinks about iPhones. One more reason I'm happy with my Treo.
