Stupid People at the Rent Movie

Well, I just got home from seeing Rent, which I loved, but the girls behind me ruined the experience I waited over a year for.
First, when Seasons of Love came on one said "Girl that's your song!" so they proceded to sing it.Keep in mind there were only maybe ten people in the movie theater. It only gets worse from there. I don't think they knew what Rent was about. From what I gathered all they knew about it was the song Seasons of Love, and that Taye Diggs was hot. Everytime Angel came on in drag they laughed and made rude comments, especially when Jessie and Wilson kissed, they were like "Oh no they didn't! It's time for us to go" and "There is no way this is rated pg 13".
They also kept making comments about Idina, and how ugly she was, and and they also had rude comments about Tracie and Idina's scenes, but it wasn't as bad. I guess they are more tolerent of two women kissing. They wouldn't shut up during Over the Moon. I know it's supposed to be funny and make you laugh, but they kept talking about how stupid this was. Oh and the phrase 'That was dumb' was said about every three minutes.
When the breif reprise of Seasons of Love came on again they started singing along, only to be shocked that the words were not the exact same. They were even laughing during I'll Cover You reprise.
I know this is a long rant, but it just made me mad. I kept looking back at them, but it doesn't seem to phase them, and I really didn't want to start a fight by saying something, only because I didn't want to get thrown out of the theater as well, because I knew once I started, it would have been ugly. I moved at one point, but they were so loud I could still hear them. As I said before, I was looking foward to this film for a long time, and while I enjoyed it, those idots made it less special for me. I'll definetaly see it again.
Sorry, I just had to let that out. I knew you guys would understand. Thanks. Anyone else have to deal with any stupid idots in their theater?

Wow, I'm so sorry. That sucks. Now I'm not as pissed at the person in my row who whispered the words to every song. At least I couldn't hear her most of the time.

See know this is interesting, other people on this board have said it fine to moo, sing and clap during this movie.

That they are allowed to do what everything like in the theatre cause they payed $10.00 bucks.

It can't go both ways.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

That's very annoying.

I did get the urge to clap after every musical number...force of habit...but I controlled myself!

Only 10 people in the theatre?!

The women (yes.. women) to the side of us yelled "eeewww" whenever anyone kissed.

This is what happens when advertising leaves any doubt about the content of the film. I, too, had homophobic people at my screening who were openly surprised by the kissing.

Maybe they'll start a thread about it............

re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

When I went right when Angel and Collins kiss for the first time there was a lot of ewws but otherwise the audience (theatre was so full!!) was very respectful. Sorry to hear your experience.

re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

That stinks! I'm sorry.

The audience at my movie was great. Pretty much the entire theater was crying from what would be the second act (that's the only way I know how to describe it) to the end. I may have been the most annoying person in the theater seeing as I was just so excited and jumped at everything. Also, it was hard to restrain the clapping after every song. No mooing, though. Thank goodness.

re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

Hey it's better than being in a comedy and having someone find something that was mildly funny and laugh at it as if it was the funniest thing they've ever seen in my life. This happened when I saw the Terminal.

re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

I had two stupid people in the movie who ruined the first 40 minutes of the movie for me before I decided to move. There was a couple in front of me who kept talking during the movie. During seasons of love they were singing and then each time angel and collins were together I would here the girl whispering that they were gay...I think we all got that already. And she kept turning to the guy she was with and asking him questions about the movie really loudly. It really did ruin the first 40 minutes for me before I got fed up and moved away from her. I hate rude people so much.

edit: Sorry for the typo...

re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

My audience wasnt so bad, with the exception of ppl singing during "Seasons of Love"(whom I almost beheaded), and the guy that went "EWWWW" when Collins and Angel kissed. Most were crying during "act 2". I was SO thrilled that ppl were into it! My friend ,however, had the same problem that most of you had. I was perpared for someone to be singing the show, and I was prepared to go off on them, but I didnt have to luckily. Hope you all go see it again and have a better experiance! I'm sorry that happend to yall!re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

Well, I saw it twice today. It was actually less of me being a crazy "Rent" fanatic than the fact that I saw it in the afternoon and then ALL of my friends saw it at night and. . . why not see it again? HaHa.

Anyway, the matinee was perfect. No noise, not many people.

The night show, someone's phone kept going off. It wasn't a ring, but a vibrate, but you still heard it. Ah well. There were eww's when Angel and Collins kissed, which upset me. A few people did moo, but just once or twice. A lot of people were crying, as well. After the music stopped after the "I'll Cover You" reprise, you could hear lots of sniffling.

re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

Both times I saw it today, no mooing, no ewws anywhere, sporadic applause after a few of the musical numbers, alot of applause at the end.

re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

My sold out audience was great. No ewws! 4 people walked out during La Vie Boheme, but they were quiet about it--they didn't vocalize the looks on their faces.

This film (and Brokeback Mountain) are gonna be shocks and educations for a lot of people at the expense of those of us who have been there done that with the whole gay thing.

It's sad, but hopefully, it's progress. They eww because part of it excites them...

re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

so, what did you think of the show jerby?

this was the best audience i've seen a movie with in a long, long time. it was mostly tweens, a handful of parents and us two queens. re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

people were shockingly quiet and the only complaint i could muster was the girl in front of me checking her cell phone every 5 minutes (was she text messaging? what?)

although i was very surprised at the sound quality in the theatre - it was not very high and this is a fairly modern theatre. the soundtrack sounded canned. odd.

re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

There were stupid people at the one I went to too. These three girls sitting to the left of my were annoying and they sang SoL too. They kept on talking and laughing at the most unlaughable moments. I asked them to be quiet and one of them gave me the finger. That nearly ruined it for me.

re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

A cellphone went off at the most emotional parts of the movie. But by the sound of it, I got off lucky. I'm wearing my work uniform next time, so I can tell them to shut up like it's my job.

I guess you've all learned your lesson and next time will wait for the DVD.

Until the theater owners smarten up and make every ticket buyer fill out a written test proving they already know every scene in the film before they see it.

I see you've taken your happy pills today, Aunty Rath...

Not that people's behaviour in a movie theater in America affects me at all. Especially since it opens in this region in March, 2006...

re: Stupid People at the Rent Movie

When I saw it on Wednesday, there was a group of about 12 girls 3 rows in front of myself and a couple of my friends. One girl, seemed to be the leader of this pack, came walking down the aisle, bossing everybody around making them move. My friends and I were like "Crap, she's a singer. She's going to sing the whole movie" Before the previews started and she finally shut up and took breaths between her words, Defying Gravity was playing on the CineRadio. This girl proceeded to stand up and sing every word. I was about to get up and be like "If you ruin this movie and RENT Day for me you will regret it." Ehem..luckily...a girl she was with said "if you sing at all during this I will kill you." Needless to say, she didn't make a noise the whole movie. Actually, the whole theater was silent, I didn't hear any wrappers or anything, everybody was just captivated. We had a good audience.
