Please suggest any plays highly suitable for production by a high school group of students. Plays-not musicals.
Give your best thoughts and selections...

Do anything by Arthur Miller, Tony Kushner, Thornton Wilder. Or maybe a french author? How about Camus, Sartre, Giraudoux...?
Edit: or do some German plays: Brecht, Schiller, Goethe...

"You Can't Take It With You" seems to be a favorite among High Schools. G Rated - lots of big parts for guys and gals.
"Feifers People" is also good.
"Twelfth Night"

Posted: 9/21/06 at 3:33pmHarvey is a pretty good play for a high school. it values small town morality and has no offensive humour at all.

Posted: 9/21/06 at 3:41pmI was in a production of The Women. Granted it's an all female cast, and there are some tongue-in-cheek sexual references, but it's a fantastic ensemble piece. I loved it!

Kushner for high schools? No thanks....
All the classics are good bets. Almost everything by Wilder.
"You Can't Take it With You," "Our Town," etc.

*lol* Munky, take a chance, what's wrong with Kushner??
No need to stick to the tamest of the tame, is there?

It has nothing to do with being tame - I'm all for pushing the envelope.
But if they were to do something like ANGELS IN AMERICA at a high school, much of the integrity of the original material would inevitably be compromised. Significant cuts would have to be made.
For colleges, of course- yes.
For high schools? Come on. It's just not do-able.

OUR TOWN is such a horribly rotten boring play.
Beautifully written, but boring.

I don't find OUT TOWN boring at all. I find it fascinating. Good productions of it are never boring.
What about "Wait Until Dark" or "Pygmalion"?
