So whatcha reading this summer...y'know...those easy breezy fun reads that make summer so great and airplane trips short (no Tolstoy, Hardy, DeLillo, or McEwan thank you...that's fall/winter stuff) My favorite summer books are:

Anything by Jacqueline Susann
and
PRACTICAL MAGIC by Alice Hoffman....DON'T SEE THE MOVIE!!

Currently reading THE INNER CIRCLE by T.C. Boyle...unputdownable!

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

I've actually just started re-reading "A Mary Called Magdalene" by Margaret George.

"Applause begets applause in the theatre, as laughter begets laughter and tears beget tears." CLAYTON HAMILTON, "Theory of the Theatre" "I think theater ought to be theatrical ... you know, shuffling the pack in different ways so that it's -- there's always some kind of ambush involved in the experience. You're being ambushed by an unexpected word, or by an elephant falling out of the cupboard, whatever it is." TOM STOPPARD

I'm re-reading "My French Whore" by Gene Wilder for the third time. Amazing novella. His first one too. It only takes two hours to read. It's very good.

"I'm tellin' you, the only times I really feel the presence of God are when I'm having sex and during a great Broadway musical." - Nathan Lane - Jeffrey

Anyone who likes Jacqueline Susann should read Oliva Goldsmith's Flavor of the Month, which is one of the most delectable pieces of fluff I've ever read. It's trashy and ridiculous, but really well written and hilarious.

"How do you like THAT 'misanthropic panache,' Mr. Goldstone?" - PalJoey

My breezy fun reads are usually mystery paperbacks- I am going through a Lisa Gardner phase right now, but of course you can't top James Patterson for the cheesy mystery book factor.

oh- word of advice to anyone considering picking up Everyone Worth Knowing by Lauren Weisberger: don't. Just do not do it. You might think it's going to be a fun fluffy beach read, but it was one of the more horribly written books that I have ever had the displeasure of reading; it was so bad that I couldn't even enjoy it on a cheese level. I suffer from an illness whereby I have to finish reading a book once I start it, and by the time I finished Knowing I was worried that my eyes were going to get stuck that way, from rolling my eyes so much at the bad dialogue, lame plot, and nothingness that this book was.

And I actually thought Prada was a fun fluff read, but wow talk about your second book letdowns!

Fun fluffy books that I've enjoyed are Sophia Kinsella's Shopaholic series (and all her other titles).

Oh yes, it's so good!! I wouldn't call it a fun fluff summer read, but Memory Keeper's Daughter is easily one of my top 15 fav books. So good. Maybe I'll reread that sometime this summer too- adding it to the list. :)

I think I'll be focusing on my Stephen King this summer. He's the perfect summer read for me. I'm working on Bag of Bones right now, which I've not read before.

Love Bag Of Bones!
Love SK in general actually.

This summer I'm going to read the new Michael Chabon and the new Chuck Palahniuk.

And some porn. Can't forget the porn.

When it comes out, I am going to read The Good Guy by Dean Koontz and Last Seen Alive by Carlene Thompson. After that, I have no clue.

I'm reading The Confessions of Max Tivoli right now, and I think I might read The Memory Keeper's Daughter next if I don't break down and just buy the new Michael Chabon.

Of course, on July 21st I'll be reading Harry Potter! And I may just reread it a few days later... and I may have to reread all the other ones before that...

I've had an itch to re-read The Wheel of Time and His Dark Materials books. I have a feeling it's going to a fantasy book kind of summer.

Guido, Prep is good, but strange. I didn't love it because the narrator drove me crazy, but I'm glad I read it. Its worth a look.

This summer I have an extraordinary amount of reading to do as I prepare for my comps, and I plan to supplement that academic diet with literary filth of an as of yet undetermined nature. I want it trashy and light, and easily read in one night.
