Sabrelady, I really liked the ending. A few people I lent my copy to didn't catch it.
Very cool that she was inspired by punch drunk. I woulk love to go to a circus like that! She had to have Cirque on her mind also! With the magic thrown in it made it a really fun read.

Ohhh second The Night Circus. I read it a couple years so I forgot about it, but I remember really loving it. Definitely influenced by Punch Drunk - I could basically see them put a show on based on this book.

Almost done with A Queer and Pleasant Danger, Kate Bornstein's memoir. It was pretty dull while she was in Scientology, but now that she's out and considering gender reassignment surgery it's picking up. I've got a whole shelf of books I haven't been able to get to during the school year. It's been so long since I've read fiction. I got The Book Thief for Christmas and I want to get through that, but my old beloved Geek Love is calling me back for a second reading.

I am currently adding Hillary Clinton's book to the Kindle. I have a list of about 50 that I want to read, but just don't have time time.
Anyone who has finished the Divergent series? I can't seem to get into the final book. It's making me crazy that suddenly they are hopping POV between chapters!

Oh, you guys and your excellent literature. A few days a go I finished up Skin Game, the latest volume of my favorite trash garbage, the Dresden Files series. Now I'm in the middle of rereading Guards! Guards!, because Watch books are excellent comfort food, while also winding down the second half of The Blazing World, which is not comforting but is very good so far.

Just finished up MARYA: A LIFE by Joyce Carol Oats (wonderful!) and am now starting THE GROUND BENEATH HER FEET by Salman Rushdie which, so far, is also wonderful!

So Kobo had a big sale and i bought some (more) books. Finished Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay-,
I liked his Sarantium series (is 2 a series?) and had heard good things about this. Its about a land that has been cursed it's true name has been destroyed along with the decimation of the land by invaders. It turns into a Romantic adventure of a special group of people who fight to regain their lost land and it's name...Tigana!

An interesting list--complete with links to the stories in question--of some great short works of fiction.
All the usual suspects--Atwood, Updike, Cheever, etc.
Included is 'The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas' by Ursula K. Le Guin--one of my all-time favorite works of fiction. Le Guin is a masterful story-teller and 'Omelas' is incredible, I think.

Last week I finished the fifth book in the Outlander series, "Fiery Cross." I've spent the entire year reading that series!
Yesterday, I finished "The Leftovers" by Tom Perrotta. I love Perrotta as a writer but the ending of this book left a little to be desired. I'm not sure if I'm going to watch the HBO series.
Today, I started Miranda Hart's "Is It Me?" and already found myself laughing out loud on the subway.

Finished "The Goldfinch" Couldn't put it down (which was challenging, given my crazy work schedule).
I am about to start "The Arsonist" by Sue Miller.
Again, recommended by the owner of a bookshop I love, this novel is described as: 'Suspenseful, sophisticated, rich in psychological nuance and emotional insight, The Arsonist is vintage Sue Miller — a finely wrought novel about belonging and community, about how and where one ought to live, about what it means to lead a fulfilling life. Still working my way slowly through Elizabeth Warren's "A Fighting Chance" which is really delightful, so I'm savoring it. And for some reason I picked up Natalie Goldberg's "Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within" in anticipation of Camp Nanowrimo next month. I last read it around 26 years or so ago.

Kinda disappointed w "Frog Music"- nice historical setting, well written but the protagonist irritated me. More acted upon then actor in her own story her vacillations between loving her man and seeing him as he really is, as well as her baby issues just got tiresome.
Going back to Guns Germs and Steel- not really "summer" reading but gotta have a lil substance in the mix.

I finished it. Yeah, that was kind of an odd shift, but I don't want to spoil it for you. Reading the Matched series now. In the second book, Crossed, the author does the same thing. Starting Reached this weekend.
