Sun bathe or hide inside?

Yesterday was my sister's college graduation. Very nice, but very long. I got my first offical sun burn of the year sitting in a football stadium. So I ask you this question?

Do you tan or burn?

I get to thank my father for my Irish skin.

I don't do either very easily. I have stubbornly pale skin. I usually tan, but if I go to the beach down south where the sun is significantly stronger or something, I'll burn badly, but it fades to tan quickly.

re: Sun bath or hide inside?

i tan easily and used to lie out in the sun during summer ... but that was back when i was young and stupid. PLEASE, everyone, AVOID prolonged sun exposure, and always use a good sunblock for outdoor activities!

re: Sun bath or hide inside?

oh, please. I have no sympathy for you, ConvinceMe2. that is not a sun burn. at least nothing like what happens to my skin after being unprotected in the sun for.... mmmm... maybe five minutes.

re: Sun bath or hide inside?

But I need your sympathy CATS!!!! That's from an entire day of surfing, so maybe I don't burn so much. But, I think I do.

re: Sun bath or hide inside?

Did anyone read/hear about a recent study done on sun and vitamin D? My mom told me about the article she read, so I may not have all the details straight. Apparently sun helps your body absorb vitamin D (or something like that), but sunscreen prevents you from doing that. A lack of vitamin D makes you more succeptible to cancer. So basically you can end up with cancer by not protecting your skin or by protecting it too much.

re: Sun bath or hide inside?

guess it doesn't matter. you could burn your entire body and still be hot... well... hot. ha. that was stupid...

re: Sun bath or hide inside?

Isn't it frustrating for all of us "burn-ers"? When i was a senior in High School everyone kept asking if I wanted to go tanning with them before the prom. No one realized that it was pointless!! I burn, peal, then go back go being all pasty. re: Sun bath or hide inside?

re: Sun bath or hide inside?

It has been said that you get all the Vitamin D you need for a week from 15 minutes of sun exposure to your face alone. Anymore than that is wasted Vitamin D
