superbowl

what a freakin' game. i don't care who you were rooting for, that was a damn fine game. like two heavyweights feeling each other out for the first quarter and a half and then boom! a pesal to the metal slugfest. funny, the last great superbowl happened to have the pats in it too. bill belichick is my hero. namo, your pansies put up a good fight, but in the end the right team was holding the big silver ball.

can anyone tell me why a p. diddy and nelly needed to lipsynch, yet kid rock and even justin timberlake could sing live? janet i could understand, i mean that dancing stuff is tough. whattaya think she is, a broadway performer? i liked the sets, the lights were splendid and i'm a sucker for fire...large pillars of fire...heh heh, heh heh. fire.

"ghetto ignorance" is suspiciously close to a term i used to hear a lot growing up which i still berate my father for using. but then, he's 87 and was born the son of a sharecropper so i cut him a little slack, not much but a little. it's racist, bulldog, and that's not a liberal opinion. maybe you didn't mean it as such, but a man of your intelligence and sometime eloquence could easily have found a phrase that captured your intention without the racial connotation. i think you're better than that.

mrs. mambo said it best, "what a f****** game!!"

re: superbowl

Ummm...yeah, good game! Yay Patriots! (was going for them from the beginning!)

I think that I'm the only person who watches the game and skips the halftime show.

re: re: superbowl

Great game for sure. I said it would be Pats. I wasn't kidding.

As for ghetto ignornace, I'll accept the criticism of a poorly turned phrase. The 1/2 still sucked. They should have had the Boston Symphony playing show tunes. LOL.

Yeah, another frickin LOL, Bulldog.

Face it, if you reserve the right to say the Loyola students who wanted to take part in the V-Day benefit by staging a reading of The Vagina Monologues were "just trying to provoke," then you have to know that that's exactly what it appears you were trying to do with your statement. That somebody who wasn't me or somebody you can dismiss out of hand needed to point it out for you to even pay attention speaks volumes much L-er than your LOL.

You know what...no matter how much you want to insult the half time performers they are known by millions more people than most broadway performers and have made more money than any of you can shake a stick at. When performing in an arena that big there is about a 4 second delay in hearing your voice back at you. Not only that but when your grinding your butt of onstage with a four second delay and trying to sing well....it doesnt work.

But Janet does the same lip synching in the Saturday Night Live studio, too, and that's a lot smaller than a domed stadium. She's never not lip synching. And at this point, she has been doing the exact same dance routines for these songs for years and years. She should know where to breathe by now.

CBS is now apologizing for Janet and Justin's "display". Why? That appealed to MOST of the demographic they were shooting for!

gee, justin managed to since and move at the same time. kid rock managed to well, if not sing then, screech appropriately live. aerosmith in the pregame show managed to perform live. heck, beyonce sang the national anthem live. janet i can cut slack to as she was dancing. i don't agree with it and think it cheapens the entire experience, but she gets a little slack. p. diddy and nelly? lipsynching rap? please.

Exciting Second Half to be sure,I gave up on the Half Time show years ago, as a matter of fact hearing Janet's "new" song I thought it was 1994, they HAD to do something to make people discuss it. Regarding the rest of the "entertainment" I will admit to liking Nelly.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: superbowl

Have you ever noticed those earpieces the wear? Those are so they can hear themselves without the delay in case anyone didn't know.(not meant to be patronizing) Were any of them wearing them? I didn't notice but I bet the were, so that would cancel out the four second delay theory. I didn't really like the halftime show, I thought it was crap. How could anyone have enjoyed it? They butchered a bunch of a couple year old songs and tried to make them fit all together. It was bad.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: superbowl

I have a Superbowl question and wondering if anyone can give any reasonable explanation for this.

Why do football fans celebrate the victory of their team by turning over cars, starting fires and evn killing people. We had a few deaths here in Boston last night. All related to post game craziness.

I don't understand the mentelity there. A group of already over paid athletes won a title, more money and more fame. It's theirs, not ours. So why do people get so carried away? It's as if they themselves have received something wonderful and just can't contain their emotions.

Because people are stupid and lead sad and empty lives, only getting pleasure from the a completely useless sports trophy they had nothing to do with gaining, hoping it will compensate for their own utterly unsatisfying and essentially worthless existences.

I love football but I hate the sports culture in this country.

"[w]hy do football fans celebrate the victory of their team by turning over cars, starting fires and even killing people. We had a few deaths here in [b]oston last night. [a]ll related to post game craziness."

why do soccer fans riot? why do basketball fans riot? why do parents leap into bench clearing brawls during little league baseball games? sports ignites passion. the funny thing is though that in almost all of these riots that follow a chanpionship, when arrests are made and the melees sorted out, it turns out that the people most directly responsible had no connection to the team whatsoever. they were just jerks looking to trash something.

that said, the riots that we see in this country following a championship have nothing on the violence that follows soccer. heck in 1994 columbian "fans" killed the player held responsible for a columbian loss to the u.s. in the world cup. in 1996 84 people were killed during a soccer match stampede in guatemala. at least we wait for the championship to riot and we don't kill our players.

if you were to put 30,000 democrats and 30,000 republicans together in an enclosed space and feed them alcohol while having them watch the election results for the 2004 presidential race broadcast, i daresay you might see a few brawls, too. people like to have something to identify with. i know i've been known to yell a bit too loud in bars while my team is on and have had occasion to discuss the finer points of team identity with fans of opposing teams using language more suited to a locker room and acts that would get me booted from any organized sporting event. in any crowd you will have the few who will push things too far and you'll get mob mentality. it's been around since the dawn of time and as much as we'd like to think sometimes that we've evolved past it, look at a european paper's sports section sometime and you'll see we haven't.
