London - The new Superman is giving movie bosses a headache - because of the size of his bulge.
They fear Brandon Routh's profile in the superhero's skintight costume could be distracting, reports the Sun.
Hollywood executives have ordered the makers of Superman Returns to cover it up with digital effects.
The Sun's source said: "It's a major issue for the studio. Brandon is extremely well-endowed and they don't want it up on the big screen.
"We may be forced to erase his package with digital effects."
Brandon, 26, has taken over the superhero's cape from the late Christopher Reeve.
Wardrobe artists have had to fit him with a special codpiece for the new film out next year.

(Probably false, but fun nonetheless. -BW)
Superman 'too big'
Brandon Routh probably broke the story himself
oh please, it's probably the cod piece that was too big.

Well, it DOES give one pause for thought . . .
This is the worst news I have heard all day...

BWAHAHAHA
Actually, this reminds me of the actors on X-Men ribbing each other about who had to fill their codpiece in with socks. :P
In the 3rd season of Smallville, there is an episode where Tom Welling is stripped down to his tight underwear and tortured for about half the episode. On the DVD commentary, it's mentioned how when the studio heads saw it, they were also "nervous" about his prodigious bulging and discussed possibly reshooting.

hahaha this amuses me to no end
Today is my double post day.

An early (I think in fact the first) publicity still of Routh in costume. Do we think the bulge has been reduced here? If not then what IS all the fuss about?

I love superhero movies.
I think they should just take the costume off him for this edition. I mean, we've SEEN the costume. No bulge issue, then.
Would you prefer yellow spandex?
ba dum tish!
Well, I'm sure with some artful tucking, it shouldn't be an issue. I'll volunteer for that job. And anytime it needs to be rearranged!

I'm REALLY not getting it.
and even if you were, you apparantly wouldn't be
Does size matter when you're also getting this?

Rises up to give thanks and kisses to Plum, then . . .

Yes, this is indeed a myth. Buzz created to draw attention to the film. They will not be digitally erasing his bulge as there isn't that much of one to begin with.
Do they honestly need to CREATE buzz for this movie?

*shrug* Believe it or not, there's been online arguments over whether Routh is "big" enough for th role. (They mean muscle-wise, but you know they're talking out of feelings of inadequacy.)
Well, until this bulge discussion, this film never crossed my mind. Even now, I have zero interest in seeing it. Haven't we had enough Superman?
Well you live to be different, Brendan.
It's probably the most eagerly anticipated movie of next summer.
