Posted: 12/13/05 at 2:15pmI wasn't wowed by the teaser trailer. I may see it, but I'm getting sort of tired of superhero films. More could be done with that type of material than what I've seen done lately. I'm curious about how Whedon will handle Wonder Woman.

Posted: 12/13/05 at 2:16pmBecause Superman is a widely known brand appealing to adolescent boys, who buy the most movie tickets. And X3 is going to stink like a dead skunk in a Latvian sewer.

i read on some blog that routh was waiting until the movie came out until he, umm, came out. of course, there was sordid talk about how bryan singer just wanted to cast an unknown, gay actor for the role but if you believe that...

RobbO's possessed! *gets out excorcism equipment*
Anyway, I'm highly suspicious of those rumors because they just scream of homophobia against Singer to me.

So did director Bryan Singer’s penchant for casting with the lensman in his pants influence his choice of Brandon Routh to play the Man of Steel in Superman Returns? That’s the question Radar Online is asking today. It would not be the first time Bryan cast an object of his desire in a role.
"According to Alex Burton, the unknown who played the Human Torch in Singer’s first X-Men blockbuster, he was given the part after a hot-tub session with the director at a Hollywood party. ‘Bryan created that role especially for me,’ says Burton, who went on to act in exactly zero films post-X-Men."
Kevin Spacey, who has long ducked questions about his sexuality, was the centerpiece of Singer’s movie The Usual Suspects (he also appears in Superman Returns, as Lex Luthor), and the director’s X-Men movies about teen superheroes fighting for acceptance were widely interpreted as allegories for coming out of the closet. A rumor has been making the rounds that Singer wanted not only an unknown to be Superman, but also a closeted gay actor. As part of the publicity for the film, he would have the actor that he selected for Superman to ‘come out of the closet’ just before the movie opens, which is slated to be June 30th, 2006.
superman is gay?

I can't imagine why he hasn't acted since X Men. He seems like such a nice guy.
And Bryan Singer is not even remotely outspoken about being gay. At all. Not even a little bit. So if there is even a single grain of truth in that article, I would be stunned.

He doesn't have enough height and he has too much hair to truly become voiceanth though.
And it might be BS but it makes me so mad. I don't know why, but I'm oddly protective of Bryan Singer and it's not because he's a mo. He was treated appallingly in the Apt Pupil scandal and got some nasty press making the X Men movies too, press that was disproved by the making of documentaries that were on the DVDs, I might add.

That to me suggests otherwise. But he's not. I have found it in ONE interview where the interviewer points out that he's gay, and it's a question about being an outsider, and how he related that to X Men.

What was the APT PUPIL scandal?
I feel sorry for him, too. He seems to be the whipping boy of the rumour mill.

i understand what you mean but i don't see where the "article" states the mr. singer, himself, is gay - outspoken or otherwise.
edit: i know it's implied but i was wondering if i missed something.

Oh, that's funny. The Human Torch wasn't even in X-Men. Pyro was. And for some gosh-darned reason, when the part expanded in the second film it was recast with Aaron Stanford. But hey, who needs facts when you have homophobia?

It's implied. Why else would he want a closeted mo as Superman to then come out right around the time of the film's release? For a laugh?
And on Apt Pupil, there was a scene where Brad Renfro was in the shower with the rest of his class after Phys Ed and he starts to see them as concentration camp victims. The boys playing Renfro's teammates claim they were under the impression their roles would involve no nudity. In the process of rehearsing and blocking the actually very complicated scene, it became apparent that rear nudity would be required. The boys and their parents filed suit against the studio, Singer and his crew, claiming they were physically and sexually abused during the shoot.
