I went to see The Grudge 2 with some friends of mine. We went to a 9:45, and for a 9:45 show it was pretty packed.
The movie started very disturbly with Jennifer Beals pouring hot grease on her husband's head and beating him to death with the frying pan.
The movie then slipt into three plots all of which you're not sure how they are all connected:
Plot 1- Sarah Michelle Gellar is locked up in the loony bin and Amber Tamblyn is sent by her overly Sarah Michelle loving mother to find out whats happened to Sarah's character. She confronts Sarah only for Sarah to flip out and Amber to be escorted from the room. She meets a young journalist trying to figure out the legend of the house. Sarah Michelle is in the movie for all of 6 minutes before she is killed.
Plot 2- Three teenage girls going to an international high school in Japan go to the house to put the goth one {Arielle Kebbel} through the ringer. Soon, they are being haunted by the meowing boy and the crazy grudge women.
Plot 3- Jennifer Beal's stepson is noticing crazy occurences coming from next door to them, soon things begin to go arwy and being to go loony. A hooded figure from next door haunts the boy into trying to figure out what happening.
The connection to all three is slightly aloof till about the end of the film. The ending twist shocked and confused me, I found this Grudge to be less scary and more mind bending. Also slighlty random with a scene in which an old man is on the same bus as Amber Tamblyn and is playing peek a boo with the ghost boy. Its funny but crazy.
I really enjoyed this film as a popcorny type of film. I enjoyed Grudge 1 and loved this one more. I am hoping for Grudge 3, which with its opening numbers could be a possiblty.

Posted: 10/16/06 at 1:49pmI liked the first one. Scared the hell out of me, and it was an interesting take on the standard haunted house story.

I enjoyed both.
I didn't like how they rehashed the "peek-a-boo" scene. It was cute the first time, but the second time.. I was just like "eh".
I understood plot 3, to the an extent, except the very beginning. They shouldn't have opened the film with the bashing, IMO.
Also, some parts, the screaming counselor, some of the other ghosts, were pretty funny.
I don't think Amber's character solved anything but her own death. I think they should've made her a smaller character, and made Allison the main character. She was much more interesting.
WTF was up with the milk scene? Ew.

I thought the first one was a handful of creepy images surrounded by no story or characterization whatsoever.
I'll see the sequel on DVD I imagine.

I'll agree about the character devlopment. There was none. But, I thought the actors did a good job giving each character a rooting interest of some kind, so that I was scared along with them. But, when you get right down to it, the movie is about the scares, and I thought it worked in that respect.
As far as the story, I thought the director did a good job connecting the different stories. Even though the movie jumped around, I was never lost.

I agree. I also feel that they should really have made Allison the main character- but because Amber is a bigger draw, she was the star. I also feel they pushed that Sarah Michelle was in the movie when she really was in it for all of 6 minutes.

--- Did they do the peek a boo in the first movie? or earlier in this one?

I'm not sure, it was really gross though. I didnt get that girl's character at all, she was a waste.

I just saw the first one last weekend on DVD, and I thought it was ridiculous. I can't imagine the sequel would be anything better.
But then again, I'm only scared of horror movies if I think the situation could really happen, i.e. Silence of the Lambs. What was that movie in which the characters watched a video, and then got a phone call from the haints as a signal they were about to die? THE RING, maybe? Anyway, my question after seeing it was "how did the ghosts know they watched it?"

Flippancy- I enjoyed both GRUDGES because of the craziness of the ghosts vengence and also the backstory to the 1st GRUDGE was very visual and the 2nd GRUDGE continued the story well.
I also love Sarah Michelle in Grudge 1 and Grudge 2 had Amber Tamblyn who is equally as lovable, also Allison Keebel is awesome.

Maybe I'm thinking of the Japanese Grudge then.
I know there's a peek-a-boo scene in a previous film, involving the child ghost and the girl.
My boyfriend and I have seen all the original Japanese counterparts (if there are any), so it's kinda hard to remember what came from where.
I will be keeping my eye out for the next Arielle Kebbel film. I keep on wanting to write "Keebler". Oops.
EDITED to fix name.

The title of this thread should be THE GRUDGE 2: What a HORRIBLE movie. I kind of enjoyed the first film, mostly because of Sarah Michelle Gellar, but found this one to be an entire waste of time. Everything that was scary/creepy in the first film is just overinfalted and tiresome in this one. I won't go into all the plotholes and inconsistancies, but needless to say I won't be paying money for the inevitable GRUDGE 3.
And the chick with the milk, totally disgusting and uncalled for.

I watched Gellar on Conan. They both thought that Karen had died in the end of the first one. I thought she did too.
And how is Amber going to be the bigger draw? Sure, she was great in Joan of Arcadia, but has she been in anything else?
I would've went to see this doll anyday.
(Linked because the photo is so big.)
Arielle Kebbel, in a sexy pose

I'm sorry, clumsy. I was referring to the 2004 Grudge. I haven't seen the sequel.

Near the end, the sister of Jake (plot #3), knocks on this girls door. She swallows a whole liter of milk and throws it back up. And then swallows it again.
It's so gross.

Posted: 10/18/06 at 1:14amI thought this one would be scarier and more interesting than the plotless Grudge. However, I was proved very wrong. Not only did this movie have less of a plot than the first one, it didn't even make sense. The movie had 3 story lines, which I thought were happening simultaneously, that weren't connected until the very end. The worst part about it was that since I thought all 3 stories were occurring at the same time, I was totally confused until someone clarified for me that scenes in the beginning (i.e. when Allison is put in the closet) aren't flawless with the "twist." That shouldn't happen, especially in a movie that doesn't have a plot. And in the case of the scare factor, most of the scenes with the "killer" were predictable. As soon as the Japanese girl took down her long, black hair and sat with her back to the mirror... dun, dun, dun... yeah ok you get my point. But honestly, if the plot was better put together or if it was scarier and less predictable, then I might have liked it a little bit, but that was a waste of $7.00 and 2 hours. Yet when I think about the amount of time and money put into the money, I feel worse for all those involved.

"Sure, she was great in Joan of Arcadia, but has she been in anything else?"
She was the girl who died at the beggining of the The Ring remake and she was in that Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie.

Oh, that's right.
One cameo and a movie no one saw. Or did anyone see it? I never did.
And I'm gonna add that I was given two free tickets to any Regal owned theatre. Therefore, we only wasted our time and not our money.

They are if you noticed the close up on the women's face.
SPOILER: dont read if you plan on seeing the film.
BELOW:
It was Amber Tamblyn as the Grudge women. The girl's story took place POST-Amber's death. And the Chicago story happened POST- The three girl's.

When they showed it at the beginning, I'm pretty sure it was the original woman who had gotten murdered. Also, about the spoiler, I realized all of that afterwards, but they don't explain that at all during the movie.
