"THE ROSE" COMES TO BLU-RAY!!!

Criterion announced today that on May 19th they will release a 4K digital restoration of Bette Midler's first film, "THE ROSE". The DVD will feature commentary by Mark Rydell and new interviews with Bette Midler, Mark Rydell and cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond. I can't wait to see this, one of my all-time favorite movies!!!

The scene with her on the phone at the end is some of a the finest acting she's ever done.

I credit the director for getting that performance out of her. She is just not a good actress. And I do love her.

Bette was no Janis. She never was a rocker, more of a girl singer ala Rosemary Clooney. In fact, for a long time her signature song was the ballad "The Rose".

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

I got my Blu-ray yesterday and watched bits of it today. The restoration (to 4K) is fantastic, the color is amazing and the sound incredible. There is an interview with Bette Midler (done in 2015) talking about the making of the film. Overall she said it was one of the best filmmaking experiences she's ever done and she threw some major shade at how Harry Dean Stanton treated her in his brief scene in the film...

Watched the film last night – wonderful!
