TIVO

TIVO#0

So I wanted to start a thread for those of us who have Tivo or are thinking of getting it. I have now had the service for 2 years and just bought my second machine. I honestly don't know how I lived without it.

Toshiba
I only use it to record shows and then put them on DVD
I've used the broadband connection to send shows to people to, but that sometimes takes a while.
The burning of the DVD is fantastic though! I haven't tried all the other things (photos, etc...)

I really want Tivo. My cable provider is supposed to upgrade to DVR cable boxes, but I don't know what the service will be like. I know with some types, you can transfer the data as files to your PC. Has anyone had success with this? It's what I would ultimately like to have.

I also got the Toshiba. The music and pictures features are fantastic. My neighbor no has me burn Desperate Housewives forher so she can watch it on the plane ( she flys for work every week). And I have also e mailed shows to my folks. The technology is amazing.

I have direct tv and the only "service" disruption is there is a slight 2 second delay. I only found this out during an award show when I was on the phone with a friend waiting for the winner to be announced and I heard it on her tv and then it came on mine. Which was a little annoying.
I think most now have the capability of transferring to a pc

I also love that I can be away from my house and go on any computer and ask my tivo to record any show I might have forgottn to program.

me too!
And how you can enter an actor's name and only get 4 letters and it's on the right side so you don't have to type out the rest...
it's funny, my vcr is buried in the bottom of the closet now.

Spooky;
You know what I have been doing. I connected my vcr to the tivo and I have been transfering my video tapes to dvd's. Once I am done the vcr is going into the closet.

I LOVE MY TIVO. The first thing I do now when I get home is run to the machine to see what it has waiting for me. Also; Mister Matt; if you could afford it I would buy a stand alone unit like the tivo 2 instead of getting one that is combined with your cable or satelite providder. The array of services that is available is greater that way. And you can get a machine now for only $99.00. Updated On: 1/20/05 at 03:01 PM

It's a wonderful machine. I won't watch television unless it's via TiVo!

I am on my second unit. The first one was a basic one I had for a few years. You guys should be aware that I had lightening come in on the phone line and cooked the unit.

I decided to upgrade to the Pioneer 80 hour with dvd burner. I was having a hard time without it, so I paid $50 extra shipping to have it overnighted to me!

I used to have ReplayTV, I actually still have it, on top of the vcr in the closet.
Did anyone else have that? It was the tivo predecessor...I think it still exists. That had skipping commercials where u didn't even have to ffwd through them, it just skipped 'em.

Replay is still out there. I was wondering how it compared to Tivo.

So do you just use the USB to connect to your computer and access the files like an external hard drive to transfer them to your PC? I can't find any information on either the Tivo ro Replay websites.

Um. Let ssee.. I connected a usb wireless adapter to the back of the tivo and now it reads my music and picture files from the computer. Is that what you are asking?

It depends on the quality you record the program.

If you record at extreme quality, you get an hour on dvd
If you record at high quality, you get two hours on dvd
If you record at medium quality, you get four hours on dvd
If you record at basic quality, you get six hours on dvd

It is the quality the original program was recorded at. You can't change it, to my knowledge.
