Iris - I was wanting to know if you can transfer the recorded programs from Tivo to the computer with the USB.

Mistermatt,
You can do that. But they have made it even easier than that. tivo has a feature called Tivo to go. With that you can have tivo e mail your program to your computer. It is easy and free.

I also have TiVo and LOVE it! Here's my question. Hopefully, in skimming through your other messages, this hasn't already been addressed. I want to buy a DVD recorder to transfer some programs to a DVD instead of a tape. I've been looking at the Sony VX500 (I think that's the number.) I've noticed I'll save a bundle if I can get one on eBay that is in its original box and never opened. I've also heard that, as you've noted, I could get a second TiVo that includes a DVD recorder. Do I understand that correctly? I could then copy something I recorded on TiVo onto a DVD? Does this second TiVo have to be connected to my satellite dish where I'd be paying an additional $4.95 a month for a second box? Sorry if I've rambled. I hope you understand my question. Thanks.

I have a Tivo with a dvd recorder. Basically, it allows you to burn onto dvd's programs that are on your 'Now Playing' list.

As for the satellite question...no idea.

Phew!! I'd bidded on a Sony DVD/VHS recorder as described in my earlier post and then read this thread. Someone outbid me at the last minute! So now I'm free to research a combination TiVo/DVD recorder. I think that's what I'd really like to have. I don't need another VHS recorder so I don't need that feature, but I'd LOVE to have TiVo in another room. I seem to recall a sales person saying this kind of recorder would not be subjected to another monthly fee on my bill. Thanks for any info or knowledge anyone can pass my way.

Make sure the dvd recorder / Tivo is a tivo 2. As far as connecting to your satelitte; if the tv the tivo will be going on is already connected; then you shouldn't have to pay anything extra. If it itsn't; then most satelite services let you connect upto 3 tv's for free. But you would have to check with them. I have directv and I only pay one flat rate and I have 3 tvs on the service.

Catheatergirl;
Might I suggestthat you consider buying your machine directly from the tivo website. They are offering $100.00 rebates and you wont have to worry about buying from a second party.

Thank you! I'll go back and carefully read all of the posts in this thread and check out the TiVo site. I'll probably take a look at a few electronics stores. With Super Bowl coming up, there's a lot of sales going on.

I believe you can get a Humax (don't know the brand) Tivo with dvd recorder for around $400

I've seen the Humax brand a lot. Is it a good product?

I hadn't either. Thats why I went with the toshiba. It ended up being like $50 more.

I just bought two new Toshiba TVs and both are excellent products. I'd also been looking at a Toshiba DVD recorder/VCR recorder. Now I'll focus on the Toshiba DVD recorder (skip the VCR). There's a Toshiba TiVo combo? I just don't want to pay an additional fee to DirecTV for a second TiVo. Research time! Thanks for the additional input.

Each additional tivo machine requires additional service fee. i believe it is a additional six dollars.

I have the Pioner Tivo/dvd-r combo...not sure that one is still out there.

The only bad thing about Tivo - it can be real hard to set up...but once it is it is great. With me, I have digital cable (Time Warner refused to help me with the Tivo, as they wanted me to get their machine), and the sound is done through my stereo system, etc. And getting the vcr hooked in so you can convert video tapes onto dvd was tough (my friend had to do that part).

TiVo2/DVD burner combo? I'm off to Best Buy when they open to check them out. Still trying to figure if I can use the second one and not pay an extra charge. I believe someone at Best Buy said I could do that. Maybe they aren't "truthin'" me!
