Tap Shoes? (New question about ballet shoes)
Tap Shoes? (New question about ballet shoes)#1

I was wondering what brand of tap shoes I should buy. I don't want cheap shoes, but I'd rather stray away from the most expensive ones. Help me out?

Posted: 6/30/08 at 10:21pmIt depends what level in your tapping you are. If you are just starting, Capezio is great. I have a pair that work fine. They're comfortable and they have a good sound. My teacher has custom shoes that cost her a ton of money, but since her feet can't grow any more, they were a good investment. It really depends.

Posted: 7/1/08 at 3:55pmYou can always get a nice pair of character shoes and a set of Tele-Tone taps and have them attached at a shoe repair store. That being said, I do like my Capezio Manhattan Extremes as a heeled tap. I have Bloch oxfords (flats) that I prefer, though... better sound. But seriously, just make sure the taps are Tele-Tone.

Posted: 7/5/08 at 2:48amI second that. I love my Capezio Manhattan's and Bloch oxfords. And definitely make sure they're Tele-Tones. The cheaper ones sound awful, and you don't get as much surface area. Good tap shoes and taps are worthwhile investment pieces.

Ok, now I have another question, but about ballet shoes. I have a pair of ballet shoes, and there's a noticable amount of blue paint on one of them from when someone pushed me onto a freshly painted set piece during a show. Is there any possible way I could remove the paint withouth damaging the shoe? (I've already tried to "chip" off the paint and it's not working.)

Posted: 7/8/08 at 11:03amIf you've got canvas ballet shoes you can toss them in the washing maching (gentle cycle and they do NOT go in the dryer).

I don't know about Dance Paws, but the Capezio FootUndeez are good depending on what kind of floor you're dancing on. If you're dancing on a particularly ratty wood floor, I would avoid the FootUndeez because they will rip. If you're just dancing on a marley floor... suck it up and go barefoot; you'll build up calluses soon enough. Then you don't have to spend $20 for a pair of "shoes" that slip and slide around on your feet...
Ballet slippers are pretty cheap. Use the messy ones for class and get a clean pair for performances if you're concerned about that.

I've used dance paws and undeez before and i would much prefer the undeez
The undeez are like a web of strips of material that fit between your toes
paws are like a sock or cuff that goes on the ball of your foot with holes cut out for your toes. I didnt like them because they cut off the circulation to my toes and they started to fray relativley quickly
