But seriously, how do you explain to your children that killing people is wrong when the government does it? And on TV! I'm afraid those who should watch what they're supporting won't be the ones tuning in.

>> And, unless your a judge or governor, executions are a decision you're never going to have to make.

I'm not seeing a problem with that, so perhaps you shouldnt see any with the other as well.

Moving along....

I don't think I could watch an execution. Although y'all's ideas for the reality show aspect of it are quite amusing!

Stock - as I said, I don't think I could, either. But I wonder how many others would have that problem. I know 'desensitization' isn't something we're supposed to mention, but with what you can now see on network tv (not to mention movies or games,) who would even notice something like a quiet execution? And I'm not sure the fact that it's 'real' would mean a thing in a world where people believe in 'reality' television.

The thread reminds me of the "Faces of Death" video tapes from the 80s, marketed as the real thing. We squealed, we said it was awful, and we all watched.

Q, I totally get what you are saying. It's sort of sad though, isn't it? Kelzama, I never saw any of those Faces of Death things. Ewwww.

There was an entire series, but the first video made its way around teenage parties like bad porn.

I remember hearing about them. So they weren't real deaths? I always thought they were - like snuff films.
