SAMN is getting ready to sing at a cabaret tonight. She's excited, but also very nervous and has no idea what to expect.

"You have two kinds of shows on Broadway – revivals and the same kind of musicals over and over again, all spectacles. You get your tickets for The Lion King a year in advance, and essentially a family... pass on to their children the idea that that's what the theater is – a spectacular musical you see once a year, a stage version of a movie. It has nothing to do with theater at all. It has to do with seeing what is familiar.... I don't think the theatre will die per se, but it's never going to be what it was.... It's a tourist attraction." Stephen Sondheim

"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert

SAMN had a great time performing at the cabaret, and was not aware that it was also a competition...and she ended up winning!
She is also curious about blondebaby's audition spree.

Schmerg_The_Impaler is really proud of SAMN!

Schmerg_The_Impaler dreamed last night that she stopped her school's production of Annie Get Your Gun (she was in the ensemble in the dream-- the real show hasn't been cast yet) and began singing "You Can Get Away With Anything" with an impressive array of very weird props. She got a standing ovation. Granted, this was a dream!

Ifuweregay93 had an awesome time at Stephen Lynch concert last night. IUWG93 talked a friend of his to yell at Free Bird at Stephen Lynch, which he did. Stephen Lynch then yelled at his friend, which is quite similar to what happened in this video.

It starts at 3:45. This wasn't from last night, By the way.

Dollypop just made sausage and peppers on whole wheat Italian bread for dinner. It was exactly what his granddaughter would call "Yum!"

Dollypop's granddaughter would indeed eat sausage and peppers. She loves baccala, scugilli, mussels (she helps me prepare them!), eel, and duck. Last Easter we had finished our dinner and Elizabeth took the carcass amd picked every bit of meat left on it. I haven't introduced her to tripe yet.

We're already planning our St. Joseph's Day dinner and Elizabeth HAS to spend the day with me because she not only mixes the filling for the manicotti, but she stuffs them with more patience than I could ever have! (Grandpa prepares the manicotti crepes because he doesn't want the little one to burn herself on the hot crepe pan.)

Dollypop explains that from her infancy, he brought Elizabeth into the kitchen whenever he was cooking. He let her watch, taste and smell everyting that was being prepared. At the age of 1 (or so) she was watching him prepare zucchini bread and he let her grate the zucchini on the knuckle board. She then helped him make the batter and pour the mixture into the loaf pan. Eventually she started making her oen zucchini bread and added her own twist with cinnamon.

When her brother was born last May, she made a lasagna almost on her own to welcome her mother home from the hospital.

I think all of this has made her an adventurous eater.

Dollypop plans the same course of action when her brother is old enough to help in the kitchen.

BTW: Elizabeth also cleans up after herself!
