The Best/Worst Deathbed Scene Ever?

What is the best death scene ever in a movie and the worst death scene?

BEST: Marlon Brando dying with the oranges in his mouth ranks pretty up there. Mostly because it's not the kind of death you expect for a mob boss.

WORST: No idea

Worst: The death scene for Trinity in the third Matrix movie. It was way too long and slowed an already crappy movie. The whole time, I wish she died sooner, like in the sequel.

I think the worst death scene was in Love Story. Mad Magazine did a parody on it and she died of "OLD MOVIE DISEASES". It was very funny.

I really gotta agree with the worst 'not-death' scene in RENT. *sigh* As much as I love the show... I think it probably would have been a little better if Mimi ACTUALLY DIED.

if Mimi died, the whole point of the show would have been lost. The show is about LIVING. Angel died because basically (s)he was a real "angel" who had all his stuff figured out, learned what he needed to learn, but Mimi needed more time to get her s*it figured out.

"Can we count a not-death scene as the worst one ever? *cough*Rent*cough*"

I agree that the best one is Fantine's death. Aw..poor Fantine..

"No two shows are alike in the making. Each show is a living piece of your life in a small unreal world with its own character and integrity; its own new set of memorable experiences and incredible happenings. You begin to love and adapt to its strangeness. Dreams harden into substance. Values come into focus. You wish it would never end. The dream world vanishes like mist before a rising sun; part of you vanishes with it. And back you land in the real world with a thud- fogged, uneasy, jittery, difficult to get along with. There is only one cure. A new show. A new, small unreal world; new visions, experiences, incredible happenings. Again you love it, adapt to it, wish it would never end. But end it does. Another part of you vanishes. That's show business."-Anonymous

Perhaps, but it really comes off as cheesy and... ugh. I'm sure there could have been a better way to do it.

Not only that (re: Fantine), she begs Valjean to stay until she is "sleeping," but she's dead by the end of that very sentence!

Best: Near death - Terms of Endearment when she's saying bye to her boys...BUCKETS!!!!!!!!!
Fried Green Tomatoes...LOVE Mary Louise Parker!
Philadelphia

Worst: Flowers in the attic...Cory and the mother (even though it was a non-deathbed...it's still the worst!)
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

BEST: Sirk's Imitation of Life (when Annie dies and Lana Turner screams by her bedside, and we see the photograph of Annie's daughter Sarah Jane smiling)
WORST: Freddy vs. Jason (when the woman from Destiny's Child gets thrown up against a tree)

I think one of the best is in the King and I. His final note to her...you have been very difficult woman...both blaming her for no more bowing, and then him slipping away...I'm sobbing just thinking of it. God, I love Yul Brenner.

Not only is RENT's ending cheesy, it's also incredibly insulting. Not all people with AIDS get "more time to get their s*it figured out."

But some do. And Mimi isn't supposed to be the face of AIDS - just a modern spin on a classic character.

You're right, EvelynNesbit, some do. And when Prior gets "more life," it's incredibly moving. When Mimi wakes from the dead for no explicable reason, though, it's cheap and contrived, and makes Angel look like minced meat.
