she needs to be lauded by the critics when she opens next week, and come back to the stage on this side of the pond more often, after such a glorious debut...

OMG I LOVE "Girls Night"!! She is so great in it- made me cry several times, actually. I also loved her in "Secrets and Lies" and "Little Voice" - each a very different movie, but she was brilliant in both. Another movie she was wonderful in was "Lovely & Amazing"- and does anyone remember her part in "The Witches"? She was so funny in it.
But, my favorite Brenda Blethyn movie (and it is really a Brenda Blethyn movie, as she is THE main character), is "Saving Grace" - it's a cute little comedy, and she is both touching and hilarious in it. Worth renting!!

I wish I could see her on stage..

"Saving Grace" is a riot! I didn't realize that was Brenda until I read it in her bio. The scene where she goes out on the street for the 1st time and tries "distributing" is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Goes great with some Funyuns.

In Secrets & Lies, when she remembers the black man...priceless

And, one of my favotite corny movie lines is uttered by Blethyn in Little Voice when she say to the phone repairman (whose name is Buill)" You must be the infamous phone bill"

She is fabulous.. I would love to see Night, Mother

Secrets And Lies is without a doubt one of the finest screen performances of the last 15 years. She was robbed of the Oscar. Lets hope the Tonys don't repeat the same indignity.

I just think she has a quality about her that would allow her to connect more to Jessie. What other actresses do you think would have been good?

They should've had Kathy Bates come back and re-create her role....now that would be incredible to see Kathy and Brenda in 'Night Mother. I pay triple the admission price !!!

If they're gonna cast Kathy Bates as the daughter again, they'd have to cast someone like Jessica Tandy (only not dead) as the mother. Brenda is a titch on the young side.
