Yeah, Kathy could play Brenda's mother. Whatever, Boobs!
I'll have to think on that and get back to you, Shbrt. Someone with b.o. power and the right talent.

Sounds good :)
Yeah, Boobs, I'll have to agree. Kathy looks older than Brenda.

Please....they can make an actress look old (like Brenda) they can make Kathy look younger...I mean Edie didn't look so young.
She supposed to look old and worn out. I know people that becuase of illness they look the same age as their parents.
BTW Rath..you "Whatever" me once more...you'll get the Divorce papers in the mail.

I HATE to bother you while you discuss the marvelous Ms.
Blethyn (she is so fabulous!)
BUT...Bboobs and Cookie are causing trouble on the adults thread and RSR needs to be monitored on the Eddie Varley thread.

I'll whatever you whenever I like and you know it.
And look at their faces, Boobs. Brenda has a very young face - even from the 5th row. Kathy - not so young looking.

Posted: 11/9/04 at 2:10pmGiven the storyline, she's supposed to be young, isn't she? She was supposedly 16, dragged out of the mud by the husband...
#31re: The Brenda Blethyn Appreciation Thread
Posted: 11/9/04 at 2:11pmYes but not younger than Jessie.

Rath...all I'm saying with the magic of make up you can make Kathy have a youthful look. God they made us believe Sissy Spacek was 16 yrs.old in "Carrie" when she was like 30 something. Work with me people...think of the play with those 2. Damn Rath..you can't even amuse your husband..that's how my last marriage ended.

Posted: 11/9/04 at 9:15pmWas Brenda in the stage version of Little Voice? Love that movie, especially Jane Horrocks. Sorry, back to Brenda...she's so cute, isn't she? She seems cuddly and maternal.

No, Ellie, it was an actress named Rondi Reed. That production came to Broadway via Steppenwolf in Chicago. I saw the original production in London - it was written for Jane Horrocks, who played Little Voice, and Alison Steadman played the mother. They were both phenomenal but American Equity would not allow them to come over here, which was very sad.
Back on topic - yes she is cute! And definitely seems cuddly and maternal. It's nice to think she is, anyway.

But in the movie, Jane Horrocks does all the singing impersonations herself? Surely that's a unique talent?
And I saw Brenda on a chat show a while ago, crawling on her hands and knees doing a weird party trick! She's definitely not afraid to get her hands dirty, and is not self-important.
And isn't it great how she can be so funny, yet so touching?
Love her!

I agree with the "unique talent" - especially due to the fact that that was the entire reason the show was written for her - around her "unique talent." American Equity is much stricter about actors working here than British Equity is the reverse, which is understandable in a lot of cases, but in that one, it made NO sense at all.
If you saw Brenda on a "chat show," am I to assume you're in London?

I realized after I posted that question that it would be almost 3:00 a.m. in London so you probably weren't there.

Brenda Blethyn Set For 'Clubland' Comedy
[Friday, November 5th, 2004]
Brenda Blethyn has signed up to star in Clubland, says Variety.
Blethyn will play a raucous English comedian who causes a stir when she entertains auds at Sydney clubs. Blethyn's character poses a dilemma for her 20-year-old son, who must choose between the mother who raised him on her own and his feisty new girlfriend.
The project is helmed by Cherie Nowlan, and the script written by Keith Thompson.

"In 2002, Blethyn...was awarded an O.B.E. (Officer of the British Empire) in the 2002 New Year's Eve Honors List."
So she actually is a Dame - she's apparently just too cool to use the title.

Yay!
But isn't there all sorts of ranks...Commanders, Knights, Dames etc. Maybe she's working her way up.
#48re: The Brenda Blethyn Appreciation Thread
Posted: 11/9/04 at 10:23pmI believe the O.B.E. refers to the titles Knight and Dame. If anyone knows differently, please enlighten us.
