Lead female character (detective, El Paso PD) has Asperger's syndrome and this is very subtly indicated and well acted by German actress Diane Kruger. Male lead Hispanic detective is excellent as well. Visuals very artistic and stunning.

Posted: 7/20/13 at 10:26pmI'm enjoying it. Strong characters, interesting locations/atmosphere. The mystery is compelling, but even if it fizzles as a storyline (I'm often disappointed in where a mystery goes), the storytelling itself makes this must-see TV.

I went in with high expectations and assuming I'd love it, as I also fell in love with another original FX series The Americans. Was very disappointed by the pilot but it has (slowly) started to grow on me.
I agree, pacific. Everything about the show is top notch... except the storyline. That's a major problem.

After watching the pilot I didn't know if I loved it or hated it. The acting was good (Demian Bichir is awesome), but the plotting was very slow, especially for a pilot.
There was no hook to pull you in and Annabeth Gish's story is thus far completely detached from Bichir and Kruger's murder investigation. You can tell all of the lines are going to come together by the end, but right now it's a bit messy.
I did like Kruger's awkward one night stand in the second episode.
Did anyone watch the original Danish version? Was it also about the US/Mexico border, or did that show take place in Denmark?

It does, Whizzer. It's based around the bridge connecting Sweden and Denmark.
What is really cool about that series is that it was actually co-produced and co-financed by the countries of Sweden and Denmark. That is the first time the two nations have ever partnered together in a for-profit venture.

Cool. Sounds interesting.
After the US version wraps up I'll have to get my hands on a copy of the original and see how it compares. Seems like it has the potential to be a little more "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" than what's playing on FX.

I wasn't really that into the pilot but I stuck around and gave it another shot. It's enjoyable enough. The Annabeth Gish plotline seems so far removed from the rest of the action that you know it will figure into the murders somehow. There are also weird tonality issues for me mainly with Lyle Lovett. He seems very Twin Peaks-ish.
If I had never seen Diane Kruger in anything before I would think she's the worst actress ever. I get that she's supposed to have Asperger's and all but she is just so damn awkward that it kills me most of the time. Like everyone else has said Demián Bichir is amazing and the main reason to watch. Well that and the chance to see Matthew Lillard again.

Posted: 7/23/13 at 12:09amI really enjoyed the pilot but the second episode not so much. But I'm intrigued enough to keep tuning in. I do love the fact that they've cast people who can actually speak Spanish rather than Latinos with strong American accented Spanish. The Spanish dialogue is also authentically written. Very important for a show that partly takes place in Juarez. Not like The Proposal where Oscar Nunez's character kept referring to Sandra Bullock as his "amo" (my love). It's "mi amor" not "mi amo". Drove me nuts.

Posted: 7/23/13 at 12:39amI agree about Diane Kruger. She's terrific. There was just something about the scenes with Lyle Lovett and Annabeth that really slowed down this episode for me. But I did love the cliffhanger at the end.

Bumping this to see if people have stuck with this show. I love it SO much. For me it's easily been the best show of the summer.
I can't remember the last time I've been as upset by a TV death than when Gus was killed off. Demian's scenes with Kruger in hospital and then later with Gus' body in the morgue were stunning.
Now that things seem semi-wrapped up with the beast I wonder what the final two episodes will be about. (Charlotte and Linder?)
PLEASE don't let this be the only season!

I LOVE This shiw. Diane Kruger is amazing Sonya coulda been a one note cliche but I like what she's done with her.I even had her as my profile pic for a while!
l love Marco maybe even more. Such a great character, sort of honorable but a manwhore. Their chemistry has really developed nicely.
Matthew Lillards ad his cub Reporter have had some sweet scenes too. The line of the year on any show has got to be... Putas stop throwing your twats at my coworker. Lol
I was shocked when gus died!
